Champions League revamp

Celtic has developed a fanbase in a number of countries around the world, with over 160 supporters' clubs in over 20 countries around the world.[56] Research in 2003 by Capita Consulting in conjunction with the Cranfield Institute estimated the worldwide fan base as being around nine million

Rangers have an estimated worldwide fanbase in excess of 9.6 million supporters

Estimates of the size of the club's fanbase vary, the club claims to have three million fans in the UK,[16] and over 180 million around the world who follow the team's progress.[17] 80 million of them are said to be in Asia, with close to 45 million people in China, and Indonesia registered the most followers for the club on Facebook in 2014.[18][19] A survey in 2019 indicates that there are 19.7 million followers on a number of social media platforms worldwide.[20] It is ranked sixth of the major Premier League clubs on selected social networks, but has grown rapidly, adding four times more followers in China's Weibo than Arsenal in 2018.

How much you want to bet?

It’s cute you think that’s actually factual

The financial impact the six mentioned clubs leaving the league would be absolutely massive. People saying ''good riddance'' don't understand just how much the Premier League and it's clubs relies on these teams to negotiate the financial packages it does. Every side in the league would be poorer over night, much much less guaranteed future income, nearly every part of running the club would take a hit.

Removing the main attractions pretty much pulls the rug form under everyone's feet and they know it, It's exactly why something like this can even be proposed in the first place. It's not coincidence Bruce Buck wanted everyone to give Scudamore a parting cash gift when he left his role a few years back, the TV deal is worth billions, that goes poof if this happens.

It needs to be stopped as soon as possible.

We all understand that, but it'd just mean a transition with new clubs filling the void.

The damage done by allowing it would be considerably more harmful. For me at least it'd kill the sport and I'd stop watching. What's the point if a few pre-approved clubs are being given hundreds of millions in an inherent advantage every single season - it wouldn't be a glass ceiling, moreso one made of diamond that impossible to penetrate. There'd be no point supporting a club anymore.

No, you have to stamp down on it. Ruthlessly. Relegate any club that attempts it IMO.

While I agree with this, we would still survive. We mightn’t have anywhere near the money we have currently. But I still loved the club just as much when we had Walter Smith and Mark Pembridge as I do now we have Ancelotti and James Rodriguez.

The players we get accustomed to watching mightn’t be of the highest standard, but we’ll always be Everton.

Celtic are an afterthought in the majority of the world.

Even here in NI the younger generations are not supporting the old firm anywhere near as much as 20 or 30 years ago. If kids in Belfast are choosing premier league teams over the old firm then I really don't see those clubs making a breakthrough in America.

doubt it - PSG do not have the competition for CL qualification (and so the pressure on finances), so theres no need for them to back this

Correct - none the less; similar to other state owned clubs, their ownership will be keen to ensure they are playing the Real Madrid's and Man Uniteds of this world.

If it goes ahead, which I still dont believe is likely, their owners will be desperate to join

Mikey thinks Han in Bejing has even heard of Glasgow Celtic.

I mean the majority of English people don't even care about the SPL, but sure, the World takes notice.

that is the thing - with them being kicked out we'd survive, but them in a permanent super league and in the PL I don't see how we would

Surely if UEFA don't want this they can ban all clubs involved from any future European competition, and FIFA can ban any players involved from representing their countries. Premier League can deduct them tens of millions each for breaking their contracts and deduct them points.

But let's face it, if these clubs want their billionaires league - they will get it and any fines, etc, will already have been factored into their financial planning when coming to their decisions about the new league.

I think the biggest issue is that whenever these bottom PL sides play the top 3/4 sides, the result is already known before a single ball is kicked. Last year, Liverpool walked to the title with 99 points and this year, City secured the title in literally February and that's down to the quality of these sides. You can point me out one-off results all you want, Bradford City spanked Chelsea 4-2 few years back, one-off results can happen.

People spend big money on football these days. When there's a greater flow of capital in your business, you gotta upgrade and re-invest that capital. The current format of Premier League has a lot of deficiencies, from an entertainment stand-point and you can't allow that stuff to linger around.

NFL is the most successful sports league in the world because the NFL puts a big emphasis on the quality and standards of the game.

The NFL is the most profitable yes, but it's not the most popular/most watched sport in the world. Football is.

The NFL is successful as its ran like a business that changes names, rules, leagues, teams, stadium, regularly to follow the money. Has nothing to do with quality. 25% of them don't even have stadiums in their own city.

It’s sickening isn’t it. Part of me hopes they do leave.
Most of them are plastic anyway, leave football to real clubs and real fans anyway.
Villa, Wolves, Palace, proper clubs with proper fans, give me them any day over UTD, Madrid and the rest of them.
Football will survive and this new super league will bore itself to death eventually.
The reality is, premier league money would disappear overnight and we'd be buggered along with Wolves etc. It would require their own fans to turn on their clubs to stop it from happening. Genuine RS probably would, for example, but it's a global game now and they'd be fine without them.

Having said that, the main aim will be more favourable champions league reforms. Extra places for the top leagues and special rules for the RS.

Plenty of both Irish and Scottish expats who would happily adopt them

Basically a guilt free way of supporting one of the British teams

The Old Firm in somewhere like Giants Stadium would draw very well I reckon
If you've ever been to one you would understand when I say careful what you wish for haha
