Could well have been. Hes nailed it though with Doucoure and Godfrey + Branthwaite and Nkounkou.
Do you genuinely view Doucoure as some sort of top player?

Also, I feel as though more of Brands's youth signings should be making regular contributions to the first team by now, even if it's just as subs / occasional backup. Saying that, I'm no expert on the DoF model, so maybe this is standard progress after three years - I don't know.

Nkounkou and Branthwaite have both got a handful of promising performances under their belts, but we've seen plenty of kids do this before barely playing another minute for the club.

Look at the 17/18 squad and who was managing them when Brands came in. Look at the age of it, the value of it, how many players we had that other clubs wanted, how big it was, the value of wages being wasted, the commercial profile of it.

Look at the squad now, who is managing it, the age of it, the value, how many players we have that big clubs would want, the size of it, the wages being wasted, the commercial profile.

What’s he don’t though?

Jury still out on Branthwaite and Nkounkou
They look promising but too early to tell
I still reckon we need cover / rotation at LB
Even an older player 30/31 on a free /low fee for a couple of years
We could sell branthwaite for at least £10m right now - man city would not even blink. At his age there aren't many better plus he is a pure athlete and a unit.

Nkounkou is another who we could sell at a huge profit. Smart smart signings.

Not saying they are not smart signings , they are indeed
However neither are ready to play in the PL
Branthwaite is only a baby ( fully grown in Zat years ) in CB terms while Nkounkou still has a lot to learn if he wants to rotate / cover for Digne
Granted they both have all the tools to succeed just need time and experience to see if they can step up

This sort of thing won't wash anymore if he authorises an extension for Sigurdsson.

And even that's ignoring the deals he's put Bernard, Delph and Iwobi on.

But no-one is saying they need to be played now. That's why we have 5 senior players who can do those roles.

Buy cheap early, sell high when established. Example.... As soon as branthwaite is at a competitive level to Keane/Mina then you look to cash in on them and in the meantime you are signing branthwaites potential successors

I thought Walsh and Koeman bought the kegger

Virginia? Silva/Brands in 2018 i thought...

I see Doucoure as the teams engine...

He's the duracell battery who can do the running for better players in the centre.

The first step is that we bring in better players for the centre...then once weve done that we can upgrade on Doucoure.

Which other players has Brands brought in at the younger level aside from Branthwaite and Nkounkou who have both looked impressive...

They did.

If we get Europe then both should have a decent chunk of games next season.

Then their values increase substantially.

Even if they dont become starters weve spent circa £1mil to fill two squad positions which strikes me as being far better than blowing money on an Iwobi :)

Bernard & Iwobi are better squad options than what we had when Brands took over.
Both have had some (even if just a little) input into what we have done this season

Mad that people will count Nkounkou as a definite success when he can barely even make the bench. Not having a go at either him or Brands for that, but it's amazing how carried away people can get by a good performance against a league 2 side.
Success is getting a young player in - who when costing nothing shows better potential and ability than some of the absolute wage stealing dross that we have seen get bought for £20m plus. We've seen enough in his league cup cameos to know this.... Thierry Small is wanted by Europes best clubs and is viewed at a similar profile.

They have got a lot of learning to do before they can replace digne or Godfrey.

I'd say that makes him a potential success, not a success.

It’s one thing paying too much for players we have who are playing. It’s quite another shelling out tens of thousands of pounds every single week on numerous players who weren’t even kicking a ball for us. Most of them are now out of the squad or off the payroll on loan. When he arrived in 17/18 we had a huge number of players doing nothing eating up wages.
