problem is we need a backup striker who is going to be happy sitting on the bench for the majority of the season and may occasionally get the odd game here and there in the cup or a pointless european game which we don't need to win or if DCL is injured / suspended or tired.

unless you think simms can make the step up next season there is not a huge choice out there. i think we should have gone for ollie watkins at brentford but that ship has now flown.
Er, I'm no expert in aerodynamics, but I wouldn't recommend trying to fly anywhere in a ship, or sailing in an aircraft, for that matter. Guess you'll have meant either that the ship has sailed, or the bird has flown, mate.

I keep saying, numbers-wise we are fine.

Now we clearly lack a right back and a backup Striker, that's quite glaring, even more so if we assume that King wont be retained.

Depth of course is another issue, we have Delph, Gmblammo and LOL, Besic who, well, they haven't been with us. So ideally you would be looking to offload Delph and Besic and replace them. Then another body will really depend on Gmblammo, hopefully before the end of the season we get more of an answer.

I know Gomes and Gyfi have their knockers, but, they would stay in my squad.

So then widers wise, Rico is probably a Striker at this point, so that leaves us with a sadly injury-prone Hamez, so for sure we need more quality there.

For me, the bare min this window we need to add a Right Back and a backup Striker, 1 not named Martin Braithwaite,

Then we need to replace the 2 players who haven't contributed for the last 2 seasons and no, not Gmblammo, cos hes not yet for the bin, not yet.

For a non-European season I think that would be enough, Europa we would need 1 or 2 more and for CL we would need 3 or 4 more.

So for me we must buy RB, ST, CM, RW and ship Delph, at the very min.

Then try and 1 In 1 Out other players, like Bernard, Iwobi and possibly 1 of Gomes and Iceberg, *gasp*.

I really like Andre, but his up and down form, coupled with his laid back style will never catch on here and I just think ideally we need 2 CMs, 1 defensive and 1 offensive, but if given the choice I would pick a door unlocker number 8 over a tackle merchant number 6.

TL DR everybody is for sale apart from Keane, Godfrey, DCL, Rico, Digne, Allan and Doucs.

Pretty much spot on.

I havent watched him Spud, I just know that he gets laughed at quite a lot.

We certainly need another Striker, I'm just not sure Martin Braithwaite is the answer.

See, not sure we 100% do.

King aside - whether he stays or not - I still think the best solution for us is to go and get a player who can play anywhere on the front line, ideally one who is quick but has the physical attributes to play in the Premier League (Bailey, Leon).

That gives us a bit of something extra in one player who can cover 2-3 positions. Basically what we have with King, but, to a higher standard. It also means we don't have to try and find that tricky 'back up striker' who is actually good enough, but also happy just starting the odd cup game and then being a sub.

FWIW, if we get Europe, it's a no-brainer to keep King. Still need that other player on top.

Right-back, centre-mid, winger. We probably do need a GK, but Pickford's got the rest of the season for us to fully decide on that.

Yes I don’t see us getting a number 9.

sell Bernard hopefully, then king for 5mil wouldn’t be a bad buy. to cover 2 positions and allow Gordon another season in loan. And I agree about a wide Right player who can play centrally. That will give us loads of options.

We’ve been linked this week with Florin Thauvin from Marseille. Who’s in a free 27, left footed and plays off the Right mainly. Didn’t do well at Newcastle, but has been great at Marseille and has got in the french squad.

Id probably retain King as let’s be honest he’s third choice and he’s miles better than Tosun who hopefully we can flog. It also means we can then direct our energies to RB, RW and CM. Aarons + 2 more who slot straight in would do me nicely. Would punt on Thauvin.

Any striker/forward that comes in will be to rotate through the PL and European games. I don't really get these shouts of bringing someone in to just sit on the bench and be happy with the odd cup game. DCL seriously can't be expected to play all those games otherwise we will just run him into the ground. We need to have another option even if it's just for the European games.

If we pick up King + Thauvin + Olsen then its going to cost around £10mil in fees.

Leaving us with the remainder on a CM and a RB.

Im anticipating a real star to be signed in midfield.

Carlo was talking about 4 or 5 signings for summer other day :)

Josh King, in all honesty , has'nt done much and talks of his wage demands were 130,000 a week does'nt seem a good squad option for us no matter what European competition we can qualify for ! We took years to trim down wage bill so why be mad and waste it on a bit player , if we've Kean to come back?

First choice right back is a cert to bring in and even keeping Coleman for last year of deal on 75,000 a week as back up is naive unless we'll start him on his coaching badges and bring him into back room coaching teams once his deal is up?

Olsen has done well as 2nd choice so for 5 million or whatever isn't a bad deal in reality

W've been linked with a Schalke lasd around 20 with a crazy name, Wanagama?/.?/§?, who s able to play across all front positions for 12 or 13 million so would rather him than King

Rabiot or another known head for midfield that Carlo/Brands agree on and throw in another unknown young lad like Jagne etc while getting rid of the rest of the dead weight and squad will be pretty sound!

DCL’s been great, but I’m not sure he’s yet shown a level where you’d say nobody could compete for a place with him. Obviously when you’re finishing mid table you don’t expect a great level of competition but if we’re in europe (even more so if it’s the CL) and trying to be part of that top 4/6 group again then I think another striker could get plenty of opportunities.

Wamangituka? Absolutely would take. Plays for Stuttgart and can operate across the front 3 but mainly on the right (perfect). Has had an impressive goal return this season in the budesliga and only 21 to boot. Big, fast and powerful - exactly what we should be looking for.
