A better team would have beaten us with that performance so let's be happy it was Southampton instead.

Very pleased with the win as we've found Southampton difficult to play in recent times they weren't great tonight but grew into the game in the 2nd half. My only concern was ward prowse set pieces really... And we love giving away a needless foul.

Not many teams able to roll Liverpool at Anfield and then retain sufficient composure to beat Southhampton at home.

I said to my dad that Southampton could play until midnight and not score, I think the ref took that as a challenge. God knows where he got 5+ minutes of injury time from!? Grinding out a decent win against a distinctly average team, shades of last weekend now i think of it

Funny isn't it. 30 seconds left of added time, player gets injured for 3 minutes, so plays 3 minutes more.

Agreed and that’s why we shouldn’t be talking up top 4... and why we’ll do well to get Europa.

I agree 6th/7th is the realistic aim.

Im not a style over substance supporter by any stretch but we seem incapable of a comfortable win against bottom half dross these days and we wont always ride our luck defending like Italia 90.

That's the only cravat on the win. Could've been more positive to kill the game, but he's pragmatic and we haven't won a game at home for an age.

Hopefully gives them a boost to believe more at home
