I see a lot of Championship football and personally don't rate Armstrong that highly. Toney from Brentford would be a terrible buy as well.

The one for me would be Lucas João who, with his age and past record not being insane, could be had for a half decent price if he has a steady second half of the season.

Sounds like a winner...

We bought Stones, Holgate, Calvert Lewin, Godfrey. Who says we can’t do it? City had to pay top dollar for Stones from us and god knows what the price tags would be on the other three now, probably so high that only United and City could even think of affording it. Who knows how Nkonkou and Branthwaite will turn out as well.

Yes. and I mean for all the criticism of Walsh, he also bought in Vlasic, Lookman, he wanted both the Sessegnon brothers, David Brooks and Zirkzee. He completed on Lewis Gibson too (who may still have a career). By all accounts he really fancied Robertson, Maguire and Haaland.

The issue is, he was a bad fit culturally with the club, particularly with Koeman as manager. We are not a massively patient bunch, certainly not as ptient as Leicester are. They won the league, and frankly are probably willing to give their club any amount of time and trust now to get things right. We feel very differently to that.

We need to get to a certain level (I.E top 6) and then we can start being more adventurous in the signings. In all honesty though, I do think Koeman was a much bigger problem than Walsh in hindsight. Walsh was just too weak to say no to managers when they started demanding Tosun, Klaasen, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson etc.

Judging by this season alone, we have very clear positional targets:

Right Back - Coleman, Kenny, Holgate, Godfrey and even Iwobi to an extent, have stepped in this season which has made it quite clear we are looking to strengthen here as although each player has adapted neither has really made this position undropable.

Coleman will remain as backup next season, Kenny will return from Celtic for one last chance to make this spot his own but we seemed happy to sell to Burnley in January so maybe not. Godfrey and Holgate will want to be pushing Mina and Keane for their spots and Iwobi will be trying to claim his right winger spot.

Right Winger - A position held by James during the earliest part of the season but he now has been used as a more free role becoming more central to the play. Iwobi has been used with real purpose especially v Wolves but he too has been staggered in this role. Even Richarlison has been pushed over on occasion.

Walcott's loan out to Southampton left a more experienced player to fill into this role but honestly he was very pleased to be moved on.

Second Striker - While DCL has been a revelation this season, he has found some games tough and even needed a rest to get back into the goals The addition of Josh King is a direct swap for Tosun which already feels like an upgrade. We also have Kean to return from PSG but with his current form at the French club, I think he'll be looking to be more than 2nd fiddle

Whether King is willing to make his move permanent and whether the club is willing to spend a small fee but huge wages on a bit part player at 29.

I know a lot of people will bring up the Goalkeeper situation but I think Carlo is happy to have a rotation of keepers and the club seem happy with Olsen so far so I'm expecting this to be a permanent position in the summer

excluding player sales how much money do you think carlo / brands will get to spend in the summer?

and what positions do you think are a priority?

i would imagine a goalkeeper i.e. donarumma to replace pickford or a backup like olsen

i would imagine a right back

i would imagine a striker or attacking midfielder

would offering digne a new contract and extending james contract also limit our potential spend?

Depends on where we finish
If no Europe 30-40m
If Europa 60m
If CL then Usmanov may run amok and 100m would not surprise me

You need more than a couple of good centre forwards to finish top 4. We still lack a functional right back and any goal threat from the wings. Also we could have prime R9 up front, as long as we are playing Jordan Pickford in goal we aren’t touching the top 4.
You're overlooking the fact that Lukaku would be the perfect right winger for us now. His attacking abilities from that position (cutting in etc) would outway the need for a more attacking right back.

Exactly my point. Why do we spend money on an academy if it produces nothing useful and we buy in youngsters on the verge of the first team anyway.
Completely agree, why sign elite talents at academy level when there should be a pathway for the likes of Pennington and Garbutt
