ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Klopp wanted to win mate. When hes not bothered he will send the reserves or just not turn up. He put put pretty much his full 11. I suspect Henderson has an injury, and Matip cant play back to back games.
I said earlier in this thread this morning to keep an eye on who played full strength and who didn't (and specifically mentioned Henderson and Matip). Klopp clearly had Tottenham in mind rather than that game today. United were the team looking to play and work hard and put themselves on the line.

That game today was enough for me to draw the conclusion that Solkksjaer doesn't have the ambition to win the title. It was a good time to send out a much changed team against a Liverpool team out of sorts and looking to leave the cup aside. It tells me that Solksjaer is pretty clueless and a bit desperate to win a piece of silverware - any silverware. Liverpool just want the title. Klopp will jettison everything from their schedule that gives them a workload they cant possibly cope with.

Only that lot will try and spin that going out of cups is a good thing. Losing to a rival is never a good thing. Their fans are desperate for that air of invincibility to come back so they can go back to being the ‘unbearables’ so for every game that they get piped down and put in their place the better.
Sadly, on this occasion, they are right.

What about the psychological impact on the two teams?
The cup is nothing. Liverpool will look to get out of the LC and FA Cup asap in most seasons. It would have had a worse effect on morale if they had to play more games in the cup.

Klopp's body language in the end gave it away. A good day at the office: no extra games while his opponents get them, and a player of United's sent for a scan afeter a disgraceful lunge by one of his players.

Job done for Liverpool today.

Sadly, on this occasion, they are right.

Their entire club ethos is built on confidence and momentum. If they win that game then their whole playing squad, manager, and fan base are swaggering into the Spurs game like they’re the best team in the world again, the media are lapping it all up once again, and the likes of Dier Sissoko Bergwijn and Ben Davies have already started having a few nightmares about the game. They get back on a roll and that is dangerous. Klopp then throws the next round in the cup anyway by putting the kids out.

So really the only slight ‘benefit’ they’ve gained is United have a few extra games. But all the confidence is now with United and Liverpool are again facing introspection and criticism as more doubt will seek into that squad. If it’s right v Spurs and there’s anything that makes them try and hold on for a draw than press for a win then that’s a good thing. It’s far better to completely undermine the self anointed ‘mentality monsters’ rather than letting them get back into that mindset.

Nah. They took confidence from that performance tonight and will be up for that Spurs game.

My hope is that Spurs floor them on Thursday and then they really are in some trouble.
