I’ve zero interest in working. Would absolutely love to be able to just do whatever I want

im currently managing a team of 8 and it can be very draining. Got one loudmouth from Dublin that seems like he is going down the Qanon rabbit hole and another guy who is 48, has a wife and two teenage kids and honestly seems like he is particularly stupid teenager....I a currently trying to manage him out the door

actually he is from Dublin too...there’s a theme here...

My wife is from the Dominican Republic and I ask her every other day if we can just go open a small beach bar somewhere over there and just live off that. I’d probably die of the heat but die happier!

my company is very good tho, and my boss is sound. That helps massively

I've had the same office based day job for 25 years. Enjoyed a few of those years but hated it for the last 10-12 years but it pays well and has a good pension so I stick with it. Having worked from home since March, the job hasn't got any better but being at home all the time is great. All the reward without having to actually get up in the morning.

However in 2009 I also started doing wedding photography which I absolutely love. Being your own boss is fantastic, I only have to do the work I want to do. If I was 20 years younger I'd look at going full-time with it but at my age I just can't risk the uncertainty of it especially in times like these where my income has plummeted.

I enjoy my work, but I'd still rather be in bed! It is nice to not dread coming in to work though, which I have done at times on the past. The people you work with can be as important as what you are doing though, so finding a good environment is important. I've been lucky that in the last couple places I've worked (schools) all (or at least most) of the people their are really nice. Especially when I moved from my first school (a really friendly state primary) to a much bigger private secondary school.

Hate it. Hate every job I’ve ever done. Hate managers. Especially the ones that live their lives like some crap management book they’ve been conned into believing. Managers are kopites. Weird cult type behaviour. I spend most of my days at work (I work in IT) thinking of ways not to do anything and ways to never have to work again. I try to look as unenthusiastic as possible so I don’t get given much to do. They get the bare minimum out of me. Not even had a cost of living rise in three years.
Can't imagine why...

Used to be a manager, and now work in IT. You sound like a terrible co-worker. Like the fella above who manages the two Dubliners, if it had anything to do with me you'd be managed out the door.

Been on the dole and benefits since 1981. Loving it. Get up when you want.
Prob a bit late for this, but get a job you bum.

Work to live, never the other way around.
This. Unfortunately what it takes to do so sometimes can over take the 'live' bit :(

Well if managers weren’t such morons I’d be a much better worker. They beat you down with their constant drivel and self importance.

True, I've had some bad managers. Some who just bare-faced lied to me. Still would try and put a shift in though. I know it can be difficult (I stayed in the same job/company for 15 years), but if you hate the people you work with/for that much, you should look to move rather than mailing it in every day. Even if it's not for them, for yourself - you might need them for a reference one day...

Plus I promise, not all managers are such self-important dickwads...

Don’t hate some of the people I work with. Me and one lad mess on all day when the idiot is away somewhere. We have a little sponge ball thing and we make up competitions. Like first to kick it in the bin three time’s gets to have a go on each other’s missus. Stuff like that.

Just had my annual review, no bonus for me again this year, have not been able to bin off enough or gate keep away enough customers away from the CMHT I work in... Sorry Financial sector your method of checking my performance just don’t factor in people are unique, they aren’t Math...

My manager is Kopite, to be fair as managers go he is alright, sound. However, I wont be pushing it this week.:D

I feel I get to use some of my skills in my job and am also often challenged to improve those skills whilst doing it, which is rewarding and makes me grateful.

But there are also some aspects of it which I think are pointless, tasks which when boiled down reduce to simply keeping sweet the chain of command without ever actually creating or building anything.

Only really heard of David Graeber after he died, and though I didn't necessarily agree with all of it, I enjoyed his essay / work on Bullshit Jobs. My understanding of it was that a lot of office based jobs only serve a political purpose to maintain bureaucratic status quo, and do not actually create anything "meaningful".

It's frustrating that a lot of these "bullshit jobs" are in fact very highly paid, meanwhile people that do highly essential work like food production/retail, medical/emergency professions etc are often underpaid by comparison.

It's just my luck too that you've got no legs

I was forced to retire Ill health wise, boy for five years missed it like mad after being in Nursery Horticulture all my life from the age of 16 yrs old also being quite high up on the pay scale too - it was like a profession to me.....my wife then purchased a large polytunnel and we propagated shrub liners and went car booting ,
We made more in a morning I earned a week the people were great on the boots as were the customers it was hard work but without any hassle, my health declined so after 7 years we packed in .....get my OAP in January next year rather have my health back though than a part company pension plus an OAP pension to come to get by on .....
Just remember your health is more important than any amount of income - you cannot buy your health .......
So in a way I missed my Job, but saying that if I was young now I would probably have to in Horticulture work private landscaping, and growing Shrub liners going booting .....the money is there to be had .......if you had the skills I had....

@Seathestars is this a euphemism ?

Work to live, never the other way around. Not hating my work. 99% of the time I go in with a smile, but also wouldn't miss it one bit, if I'd win the lottery today.

I`m with you on this.

I`ve had jobs that I loved and jobs that I hated.

There`s nothing sadder than going to a retirement party for someone who has given their whole adult life to a company and who has made no preparation for retirement, as they thought this day would never come. You can see the fear in their eyes, as they have no identity and self worth outside of work and genuinely have no idea what they`re going to do now that work has gone.

My dad was like this, thirty six years in the same job, managed out in the end, as he wouldn`t retire and he was holding up a promotion for a " bright young thing ".
Spent the first six months of his retirement, sat on his arse, staring at the telly and worrying the hell out of my mum.
