Bit disappointed with that decision tbh, maybe he has had a knock, he took some heavy tackles midweek. He is our next big thing that's coming through in my view.

I think it’s just for the cup game during the week. Think that’s why Walcott has been left out as well. Both will start during the week. A shame for him but I’m glad Ancelotti isn’t throwing him in all the time, keeps expectations of him moderate.

Need an early goal against these so they open up.

Disappointed for Gordon and Nkounkou.

Perhaps Ancelotti wants them playing together in the cup and needs them fresh?

Obviously would be nice to have Gordon on the bench but I like not knowing exactly what squad we’ll go with every week. The likes of Gordon will use it as motivation to break in now, Walcott and Delph though may look at it that they won’t be getting minutes so it’s best off to leave.

Think when Holgate is fit again Davies will be gone from the bench too so will have to fight if he wants any sort of involvement.

Early on in the cups though this rotation will be good and realistically some players need to know that they aren’t gonna be able to just coast on by making the bench every week even if they are on good money. Players like Gordon and Nkounkou also have to come back next week in the cup and show exactly why he should be in the squad instead of one of these big money players, good performance next week shows some consistency.

Up the Toffees !

I feel certain that he will have had a proverbial arm around him from Uncle Carlo explaining why he's being rested. His long term interest and position with the club is surely in no doubt.

Are people seriously thinking Carlo left Walcott and Gordon out of the first eleven and seven bench spots to keep them fresh for a game he will more than likely play his B team again?

That makes no sense.

He left Walcott out because he was awful. Iwobi will probably replace him on Wednesday.

Gordon a different story. He will definitely play Wednesday and its maybe as simple as Carlo not wanting a kid to play twice in 3 days, or 3 in 7 days.
