To me the difference between 4-3-3 and 4-5-1 is how you view the winger. Are they wide midfielders (Albrighton, Adam Johnson, Kevin Kilbane) or are they wide forwards (Sterling, Sane, Richy).

As I say, it's all down to how you interpret it. Dare I say it, but the system you're describing is every evertonian's favourite... 4-2-3-1.
