If Carlo wasnt here Brands wouldn't have had a sniff of either Rodriguez or Allan so lets stop pretending he's gone headhunting and convinced these players to join.

He's got in two players who wanted to join the manager and were surplus to requirements - his record in that regard is good signing players such as Gomes, Mina who Barca did not want/need.

The struggles he has had are when he's up against clubs who actively dont need to sell financially or are happy keeping a player in their plans (Zaha, Zouma) Doucoure is another who he seems to have had more of an issue dealing with.

Ultimately if we are to progress we need a DOF who knows when to bargain (Allan) but also when the situation arises that he just has to pay the money to get a deal wrapped up - smetimes that happens - imagine if Utd had baulked at paying £60 million for Fernandes who transformed there season.

Allan and Rodriguez are great signings and Brands deserves some praise for getting them over the line - but lets not pretend they would have happened without Ancelotti having managed them previously which has made negotiations for Brands much easier in that regard.

Without Carlo we don't have Hamez and Allan, nobody will dispute that, but without Brands these boys don't get snapped up for less than 50m.

For all we know though, Brands couldve been a factor in getting Ancelotti in the 1st place.
