A case of the Kurt Zouma's - starter for 3rd place Chelsea, France international yet not good enough for 11th place Everton.

In any case, I'd prioritise midfield, wingers and RB before CB.

He’s not a France international though, and he’s getting sold this summer.

We better not sign Mings
I think that Gibson and Branthwaite may have changed our minds about needing to sign a centrehalf… or at least spending a lot of money on a signing.

Both young players and both have shown they can cope very well in Adult football albeit at different levels.
As well as Branthwaite has done I think he will still be regarded as a novice with a lot to learn.
Gibson has had half a season in a tough league and will probably be much more ready to play on a regular basis.

I would not be surprised now if we were to bring in an older more experienced centre half for little money to act as cover with Holgate, Keane and Mina probably the first three to be picked.

We are in a healthier position now than we thought we were a few weeks ago.

I think it also shows that even though we all talk about throwing young players into the team, the manager can see who is ready and when.
Branthwaite at 18 has been trusted whereas Baningme who is much older has not even been brought on for one minute... which is a pity.

Branthwaite has physical presence.

well said , and at last someone that can spell the young man's name correctly ( and I'm not talking about Gibson )

I suppose I think of internationals as players that might realistically start for the current national team in a competitive game rather than someone who’s obtained a cap at some point in the past.
He was in their most recent squad, for a competitive game. I've got no dog in the fight, by all means call him rubbish, but he's definitely a French international, whatever criteria you use.

The problem with Zouma is that he seems more athlete than footballer.
He was very quick and strong , he was often able to dig us and himself out of a hole because of his pace and strength... however, quite often he had created the problem himself.
His anticipation and positioning can be suspect at times.

Certainly a good player but I would prefer a more intelligent player who seems to make the game look simpler and less frantic.

Fair enough, he could get a start if Lenglet, Umtiti, Varane and Kimpembe get injured.

Exactly and one day Laporte might even get a call up. Pavard is also a centreback who Deschamps played at right back because his other option was a certain Sidibe, Hernandez was also a centreback that Deschamps shoves to leftback as Mendy was injured and Digne not playing regularly at the time. So basically he’s about 8th best French centreback who has made a few squads due to injuries and others losing form. He’s a French international the same way Michael Keane is an England international. If it was a World Cup final it would take a miracle for France to select Zouma.
