Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

BATTLE OF THE LANCASHIRE COAST

BLACKPOOL RESULT.webp

Paul Townsend got his first start for Fylde against former club Blackpool upfront with Tyrone O'Neill, with most urging the 19 year old on to score. Blackpool fans held their face in their hands when he came forward with the ball but his shot was narrowly over the bar eventually the young talent got off to a start when he got the assist for crossing for Euan Henderson on the stroke of half-time. Fylde taking the lead at a pivotal moment in the game. Henderson almost got his second on 75 minutes when he was allowed to roam forward, cut inside on his right and get his shot away from outside the box but it drifted wide. Henderson put in a fine performance once again as his goal grabbed all three points for Fylde.

DF: He's a player isn't he? He's a top lad on and off the pitch and he's going from strength to strength. Euan has got it all in his locker and has an amazing career ahead of him.

Josh Ferguson came in for Dan Fisher and Freddy Burton replaced Tariq Lamptey who was serving a one match suspension. Fylde seemed in control from the off but as soon as Henderson sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot, the nerves settled down. Ferguson kept the same formation and it was just Mick Wisdom playing as the sole midfielder, it looked as though Wisdom was being overran so Ferguson made the change and Josh Ferguson who wasn't have the best of games made way for Brett McGavin. Wright-Phillips put in a good performance, tackling hard for the ball supporting Burton at right back and bringing the ball out to create attacks. Duncan Ferguson impressed with his winger. Henderson wanted in on the action and went on a maizy run down the left flank, played the ball right towards McGavin who found the top corner from 25 yards out. 2-0! and surely job done! Tom Hadler and the back line all impressive today and a magnificent turnaround for the Fylde defence who were recently criticised for making too many errors. Another clean sheet for Hadler will certainly grow his confidence.

TOWNSEND WINS IT FOR FYLDE!!

DULWICH RESULT.webp

It never started as Fylde would have liked and after three minutes they found themselves 1-0 down. Mick Wisdom could not get close enough to Heap to stop the shot and Hadler was easily beaten. To make matters worse, Mark Connolly received a straight red card 6 minutes later after challenging for a 50/50 with Gray in the centre of the pitch, Connolly was raging as the referee brandished the card and Ferguson was stood in silence as his experienced defender headed off the field. On closer inspection, it seems the challenge was fair albeit robust and will be one for the referees to review. Things not looking good so far for Fylde and Morgan Feeney picked up a knock but was still able to continue. Fylde pushed forward and when the ball broke for O'Neill he put Townsend through on goal who shrugged off two defenders and hit a placed shot into the bottom right corner. His first for Fylde! Tom Hadler made a fantastic save just before half-time but it seems he didn't know much about it, the ball hitting him before deflecting onto the cross bar eventually cleared away to safety. Fylde kept fighting throughout the second half, Mick Wisdom's free kick cracking the post on 55 minutes. Ten minutes later, Wright-Phillips optimistic cross almost caught Dulwich keeper Wallis off guard, he tried to claim the ball but punched it clear to the edge of the box, Paul Townsend was aware to it and hit it first time into the bottom corner with Wallis caught well off his line, 2-1! What a game for Townsend! The 19 year old certainly making an impression and proving to be the desired player Ferguson wanted. Ferguson put McGavin in midfield to support Wisdom and the ten men of Fylde who turned round a game that was going against them deserved all plaudits today. Paul Townsend's name being chanted after full-time by the travelling support.

DF: I hope it's the beginning and he has many more to come, this club haven't seen a prolific goalscorer since Danny Rowe and we have missed that presence up front. Paul reminds me a lot like Danny, he has that air about him. We aren't in a position to be talking long term deals here, he's on loan with us for the season and I think he's going to bring a lot of excitement for the fans.

I think it would be better to have the headline and score at the end of the report so we can really ‘re-live’ the action.
