Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

I think June 30th is the planned date for resumption, but I fully expect it to go past that into July, perhaps even August and September. If this thing gets worse, still, then it may only be safe in November and December - I mean who can really say?

It’s a gradual thing. I’d say the later in the year it gets, the more likely they are to scrap it altogether and reach a conclusion on what happens with league titles, relegations, promotions, European places and associated prize money etc.

But i don’t think we’re quite there yet, they don’t have to consider any of that yet. As Rooney said on Twitter recently, lets say, hypothetically, the league was to finish even in December, then the various associations could use this as an opportunity to adjust schedules drastically ahead of the Qatar world cup which must take place in November / December for safety reasons.
So you’ve got no cut off point then.

Shocked at this news. lol

I’m not bothered how long it’s extended for, I just believe that the best outcome for all is resuming the season when it’s safe to do so.

ok so 2 years good yeah? I mean I was being sarcastic saying 2025 was your cut off point but apparently I hit the nail on the head. hopefully they’ll just give you your trophy and you and aldo and your grubby sky tv sycophants van shut up and let People try and get to grips with this chaos .

Soton, sell all their best players to the RS; don't report them for tapping up, then go and sell that player to them; spend stupid amounts on their deadwood; and now, even though they have nothing to gain having scraped away from relegation, want the league to resume so the RS can win the title, hope that club goes bust.
They made a £34m loss this last year.
No one left to sell to Liverpool now either.
They are in trouble ( again ).

So you don’t have a cut off point?? The next time we play football it will be 19/20 season regardless of month or year we start? You could interrupt this season and be back on schedule for August or we could restart this season in November and finish in January 2021 then what??

Well the real question for everyone (particularly @Harryflashman who doesn’t answer questions) is, “what’s the consequence of resuming at X point?” and beyond future scheduling conflicts, I can’t really see any for any point this calendar year. It becomes less viable as the year goes on, which increases the chances of voiding - which, again, is utterly catastrophic for lower league clubs.

The only other consequences I’ve heard from anyone is “Football fans don’t like change” so therefore the season must stay August - May lol and some made up forthcoming legal battles associated with June 30th end of contracts - that only applies to a few first team players at a minority of clubs - and players are already coming out and saying they’d be happy to play past that date to support their clubs, so theres that objection khyboshed.

Assuming future schedules can continue to be adjusted by the relevant authorities, what’s the problem with playing the remaining handful of games later in the year if absolutely necessary?

As if players out of contract have all come out saying their willing to risk injury to complete a season when they have their eyes on another contract elsewhere. Lip service if they have, wait till the agents start getting in their ears. Not to mention the increased risk of injury when they get rushed back into competitive football (in the summer heat aswell). They are losing match fitness every passing day, and no, kicking a bog roll is not a substitute for match fitness.

I honestly hope them, Brighton, and Bournemouth all go down. South coast kopites the lot of them. They turn up against us or United or City like it’s their World Cup final yet against Liverpool they’re chucking the ball in the net, giving away ridiculous penalties, and somehow missing open goals from a yard out on a regular basis. To add to that they have a load of dodgy transfers between them all to the benefit of Liverpool. Here you go you can have Mane for 30 mill and we’ll take Ings off your hands for 20, oh and Bournemouth will take Solanke off you for 19, and that left back who hasn’t played a minute for you, they’ll take him for 6 mill, and pay you a ridiculous loan fee for Harry Wilson.

Thryre all one massive match fixing cartel and it’s no surprise to me at all to see that the two owners
most vocal about the season finishing and Liverpool being awarded the league are from Southampton and Brighton even though it’s not in their own club’s interests to carry on. The sooner all three clubs go down the better for the league, they’re a disgrace.

I’m not answering your questions because you’re a grubby little RS and I’ll take a ban. Im no longer engaging with you you ticket robbing beaut

Fair enough, what a terribly sad outlook on life.

OK, let’s accept that that highly unlikely worst case scenario plays out, then Chelsea will have to cope without Pedro (9/29 apps) and Giroud (9/29 apps) for the final few fixtures - what a terrible price to pay.

Likewise, Sheffield United, Burnley, Spurs, Bournemouth and Man City would have to deal without Lundstram, Brady, Hendrick, Vertonghen, Fraser and the soon to be retiring David Silva respectively.

Not at all insurmountable.

Or, y’know, the clubs and players could work together to reach a short term extension to reach the end of the season as a temporary solution - which is absolutely the most likely outcome.
That’s all ifs and buts

The contractual minefield that applies to only 9 first team players across six top flight clubs?

Willian, one of those 9, has already stated he’d be happy to play past his contract date, the PFA would certainly encourage the rest of it’s members to do the same.

Does that change your outlook?
You keep repeating this point as if whether you deem any of these 70 players as first team regulars or not has any relevance to the situation. It doesn't.

Players are going to be out of contract and just because one player in Willian has said he's fine to continue playing on past it doesn't mean the others are.

These posts reek of desperation.
