Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

This is why they don't want to cancel the season yet. They just want to keep suspending the season over and over kicking the can futher and further down the road for as long as possible until it gets to the point where they can do it with pretty much everyone onside.

extended indefinitely

Wow. They are absolutely determined not to void this season, then.
Looking less and less likely that this season will be completed.
Hate to say it but it looks more and more likely they will finish this season no matter what, even if that means completing the games in July or some such rubbish.

It's the big, big money talking. They want to tick all the boxes and complete all the contracts and payouts, and next season be damned. As presumably there are no TV contracts etc agreed yet, therefore no danger of being sued. They'll worry about 20-21 when the time comes.

Basically the big boys (the FA, Uefa, the betting companies, Sky, Bt and the rest) want to guarantee the money they have "in hand" before they worry about next season, as christ knows what state the economy, and football, might be in come September.

So inevitably the rs will get the league. And the prize money. Probably while numerous lower league teams fold but ahh der mighty redmen etc

Hope I'm wrong obvs.

I would like to know if/when this season ends, how long of a gap inbetween are they going to give before new 1 starts, surely they would not give it to long
All wrong in every sense this to me unless its all done by June 30th at very latest, not play till its all done no matter when that is. and even then the players would usually return to training something like July 5th-would they be giving another 4 weeks break etc with season starting a touch late

It's not going to be safe though. Playing behind closed doors won't work. Its a disaster waiting to happen. If ANYONE comes down with the virus from games played then the clubs, the FA, the tv companies and the premier league will get sued into oblivion.

Does anyone really think that if the RS (or us and anyone else but especially them) are playing somewhere that loads of idiots won't congregate either around the ground outside or in the pub? Of course they will and they'll all then bring back anything they've picked up to their families thus defeating the whole point of not having games in the first place!

From the players perspective you've got the minimum of fifty/sixty odd people in the ground, with the players and management team of both sides, the refs, the ball boys and general ground staff. If I'm a multimillionaire pro footballer, you're not going to convince me to play a game of football just so the pundits, tv people and the fanboys can have their conclusion to the season.

Playing behind closed doors still requires doctor(s), ambulance and medical staff to be present! All of who I suspect have got more important things to be doing for the foreseeable future than pandering to the Kopites, and certain sections of the media just to ensure a few games go ahead, so that shower can be “crowned” as champions!

I think the Premier League realise the season can't be completed, but if they announce that it's being voided now, there'll be uproar from the RS biased media.

They're sending the message that they'll try as best they can to complete the season, but in a few weeks time reality will start to kick in, world events will lessen its importance and most people will be resigned to the fact that the season has to be voided.
Yes there will, but with people dying all over the place, they’ll be shouted down as a disgusting embarrassment by 99.9% of the population. The city’s reputation will be trashed once more, but it’ll be someone else’s fault, as usual.

Players union would never stand for that

Maybe not, but the players will have had a long time with no games march and April. I suppose if the 20/21 season starts in late September though so be it.

Just hope we come out of this crisis and as few people become sick as possible.
