ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3


So, if I’ve got the maths right, I feel a bit better about the whole situation and I don’t think a guard of honour is actually likely for the derby.

The permutations are as follows (based on Liverpool winning their next 4 games pre-Derby vs Norwich, West Ham, Watford and B’mouth)

If City get 8 points from West Ham (H), Leicester (a), Man Utd (a) and Burnley (h) then Liverpool can win the league with a win in the derby. BUT, no guard of honour before kick off.

If City get MORE than 8 points from those games, then it’s not possible for Liverpool to have wrapped the league up either at or before the derby. So 3 wins and we’re sound.

If City get LESS than 8 points from those games, then they’ll be champions before kick off at Goodison and a guard of honour will be a talking point.

Essentially, for the nightmare scenario to take place, they’d still need City to drop points in TWO of those 4 games. Obviously you’d look at the away games vs United and Leicester as tricky ones for them.

As inconsistent as City have been, and even with their eyes clearly on the CL games with Madrid, I can’t see them dropping points in two of those games.

It´s Everton, always prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Nice one for working it all out though, don´t think it´s made me feel any better but always good to know how likely another moment of misery is before it takes place.
 

Is this guard of honour a Premier League rule?

Would be interesting what the police say if so - the potential for thousands trying to get in after kick off is pretty dangerous. Can they say you turn up on time or not at all?

Most sensible option would be to say just do it at their next Anfield game - it's really not worth the hassle. I could take all the "bitter" stuff in the press over actually having to see that

You've not being paying attention for the past 30 years....its either a title win or Guard of honour at Goodison... It just is.. It's totally something that just has to happen to us..
 
If it were me with a season ticket I would fleece them for every penny I could get, let some day tripper have his moment and take your family on a holiday with the proceeds.
 

Somebody (a fellow blue season ticket holder, so not on the wind up) told me he'd heard something about StubHub implementing a limit of £150 for that game, for the reason discussed here. Surely that can't be right???

Bang on, of course it is. The only thing we have had over them in recent times is the "lost the league at Goodison Park" chant. Its tiny really, in comparison to what they could lord over us. So obviously the very next derby at Goodison something horrible has to happen to us for enjoying our crumbs. That's not karma, cos if karma existed they would be playing Marine in the non league.

If we still had Silva in charge and this happened after all we've been through, I would give up with football. Its not worth the mental health. The promise of what Ancelotti could deliver is the only thing keeping me going.

Both scenarios are terrible, they could win the title at goodison and some of their fans would probably invade the pitch.
Also if they win it before we would have to give them a guard of honour which would quickly become a meme, which would be sent with every message in the future.

Our best hope is they win it after we play them or they win it 2 games before we play them.
