Digne: 30m
Bernard: 20m
Done, recruitment all paid for with profit without counting the 100m from Mina, Gomes, Gbamin, Kean, Iwobi etc.

In Brands first season he brought in 4 players, and is 4 for 4 in them being worth at or more than paid for them, in Richarlison, Digne, Mina, and Bernard. The only reason anyone has any qualms with recruitment is because we havent yet seen a full season out of Gbamin, Kean, and Iwobi. If Kean scores a few before the season ends, and Gbamin comes back well from injury, even if Iwobi didnt turn form people would be declaring Brands to be the best in the business.

It isn't that simple transfers are amortised over the length of the players contract. So it matters what the players value is on the books. Sell for less than the players book value and you actually suffer an accounting loss. When you sign a turd whose value nosedives it is more beneficial to loan the player out preferably with a loan fee and the other Club paying the players wages.
