How long has it been? 12 years or so since he made the comment? We used to call him a 'Fat Spanish Waiter'. That's the way things are with football. Mild insults and daft comments are thrown about all the time in an attempt to get a reaction or to get under peoples skin. But if they are still causing you hang-ups after a decade or so...

Who cares about what he said? If a club is paying me millions of pounds a year I'll say whatever they want me to. If the club aren't telling me to say anything I'll say whatever the fans want to hear if it makes them support me. The comment was absolutely nothing, genuinely cannot believe people who were or are offended by it. I'd love it if we could tempt him here.
In my opinion, staying bitter about something like this has all the hallmarks of a 'small club mentality.'

He had a go at most clubs because that's what football managers tend to do
He's not going to come here if he thinks it's a "small club" when he's got China money
Again, I'm sure it'll come up in his first presser and he'll kill it dead with an apology or a "Everton are a sleeping giant and I'm going to make them big again" spiel

Nearly 13 years down the line people still bang on about his 'small club' comment. Christ, I hear worse than that on a daily basis from all the armchair reds in work. So much for 'we don't care what the RS say'.
Anyone whose still offended by his jibe but have slagged off LFC at any point are little more than hypocrites.
Is he an upgrade on the current incumbent? Absolutely. I'd have Benitez here in a heartbeat and at least he isn't David effing Moyes.

Annoys me just as much that he disrespected 40 odd years of Merseyside tradition going back to Shankly by refusing to go for dinner with Moyes after he was appointed. Followed that up with the small club stuff.
