Its absolutely pointless

The tech really isn't. It has the potential to be superb and fair for all teams.

It's the bafflingly inconsistent, unclear and seemingly random application of it that's causing problems. This "clear and obvious error" guff needs to go in the bin. Taking that city pen as an example, if the video shows that there is contact (as there was) then let the referee himself see the footage and decide.

Being hard-lined and objective with the application of the offside rule but then introducing unnecessary subjectivity and guesswork with things like penalty decisions only makes VAR seem more inconsistent and not in the spirit of the game.

The people who say it is ruining the game need to get over themselves. That said the way it is used currently is really really poor. So much work needed.

I think what this clear and obvious standard means is that if the ref reviewing the play contacts the ref on the field and the ref on the field says he didn't think the contact was enough for a penalty it basically can't be overturned because the ref saw the contact and evaluated it as not enough so it isn't clear and obvious to say that it really was enough for a foul.

That's confusing to follow but basically it means if the ref on the field says he saw the contact it might not ever get overturned which is a pretty pointless system.

You mean "for", surely?

Odd, isn't it - a blatant penalty for Man City not given last week; this week Spurs denied a clear pen.

Just coincidence that they're both possible rivals for LFC, no doubt.

It wasn’t even referred back to the ref for another look.
It is clear that VAR is being used to screw City over.
Very clear...
