It seemed to me (as a obvious outsider to the dealings of palace) that he signed the contract as a way of palace to protect their asset. Under the understanding that he would be let go this summer.

Hence why he came out in April saying he was leaving palace in the summer and even hodgson was talking about him leaving about that time.

If he wants to go this window and you have agreed to let hum go at 80m and there's a team offering 65m. Then in some capacity the player is going to push for it. What worries me is hodgson saying he has no say in who stays and who goes it's all up to the board.

I hope we get this deal sorted as I really like zaha but I also hope it works out best for both parties as you seem like a sound guy.

When he eventually does go, it will be for less than we are asking now. That will be because we will want to sell him at that point. At the moment, we don't, hence the £80m price tag.

His brother , who is his manager,started agitating for a move fairly shortly afterwards. I think we've played straight and if someone came in and met our price he should go.
