@Barnfred 55 posted in the transfer thread that Umtiti is available at £30mil.

Basically he suffered a knee injury and Barca wanted him to play through it and delay his operation until the end of the season -- he refused and said he wanted an immediate operation.

Lenglet then adapted to the team after a somewhat shakey start, incidentally he was our first choice before we signed Mina according to Brands.

The thing is, if Umtiti's knee is now recovered he's amongst the best CBs in the world. Im not even sure how to describe him other than hes fantastic.

However, he may not suit our club/team as well as Zouma. Zouma is proven in our team.

What i would say is that Zouma + Umtiti would be (in my opinion) incredible.

Its actually amazing to think that Digne + Mina have been signed from Barca and Semedo and Umtiti are supposedly on the market. Imagine in 12months we could have signed Barca's defence....pretty outrageous.

The risk of course is Umtiti's knee. If it holds up then we have a world class centre back...if it doesnt then were stuffed. I guess we'd have stringent tests with the famous EFC medical team which seems to take 1 week for every signing.

If we cant get Zouma then id definitely attempt to sign Umtiti if he got through the medical...and Semedo. Then id try for Zouma in Jan and hope to sell Keane/Mina for a huge fee.

Having typed all that, @Barnfred 55 used the word Desailly and Gbamin in the same paragraph so...who really knows whats going to happen :)

On that note, Gbamin looks like a top right back in the making...its not even sure where he / Kean would play yet.

Hopefully we get Zouma, if not then go for Umtiti.

Could it be Chelsea have been using Zouma as a stand in for Rudiger who it seems is just a couple of weeks away from returning to full training.

They never had any intention of sending Tomori out on loan he is both HG and Club trained add to that they would be reluctant to go into the season with 5 CDs. The fact that Azpilicueta can play in CD gives them plenty of cover.

It doesn’t appear that Everton are in any advanced negotiation for another CD and as we know Zouma is and has always been the number one target so with the clock ticking down and the fact that Zouma would instantly fit in at Goodson my guess is that early next week Chelsea will accept an offer for Zouma and based on the market it’s going to be way north of £30 million

I don't really see how we are being played. We as fans want him back here. He already has a good relationship with this team and he bought into Everton very quickly.

However seeing how brands has worked so far I don't think zouma is the only centre back on his radar. I can see us trying again with a bid before the window closes and then we will move onto another target.

As for the #freezouma. At worst, its a bit of fun and it may show zouma just how well liked he is here and push him towards asking for a move.

Just to put the record straight, that paragraph that Zat is referring to basically said that I am not, repeat not, comparing Gbamin to Marcel Desailly.;)

It doesn’t matter how many other CDs are on the radar the closer to the first game the more desperate matters will become. If It’s not Zouma then whoever it is will be a bigger gamble needing more time to adjust to the surroundings, understand the managers philosophy etc.
Chelsea have a player who in truth doesn’t fit their style of play, a player whose worth rises daily and who probably if Rudiger was fit would be out the door already.
Why I believe Everton are being played is to do with the fee.

When he joined Stoke they paid £7 million fee and Mark Hughes said at the time Zouma was worth £40 million. Now two years on Chelsea know that the value of CDs has risen so back to my comment Chelsea are in no rush but all the while know that as each hour goes by the worth of their hand gets stronger.

Well id say Umtiti is the closest thing to Desailly around...

Would you prefer Zouma, Umtiti or someone else?

For me its a tricky one...Zouma already proved himself with us but Umtiti would be top class as long as his knee held out...then hou have Konate at Leipzig who looks like being a next level superstar.

Great effort blues on getting #freezouma trending - only at Everton! Keep up the good work, I think we do it every day until the window closes!
 
Is it just me that thinks so many blues massively over-rate zouma??

He is decent like, and got better the last 3rd of the season.
