To be fair to Moshiri, it seems he knew very early on that he would need a football expert in place - the fact we tried to get Monchi and Brands before we brought in Steve Walsh would suggest that. Unfortunately for us, it's taken until 12 months ago before we got someone in to do that job who seemed to know what he was doing.

Still though - that first season with all those signings. I mean its his money. Learnt the hard way I guess!

mate he left weeks ago hahaa

couldn't agree a new deal I think, basically mike Ashley said he won't be getting money to spend I assume

Pelle was getting 300,000 pounds a week... an insane amount of money. Rafael may as well get paid rather than get into another relegation battle.

How do you think we get to be this super successful Everton then? And what time frames do you attack to it? We all have the same objective, we all want Everton to be successful but it's worth pondering those two questions.

It's not wholly unreasonable for me to say I want the best for us too. However I know that to overcome 5 sides who pay upwards of double what we do on wages, plus substantially more on transfers, from the base of where we were left under Allardyce/Koeman/Walsh in 1 or 2 seasons is extremely unlikely. Crucially I also know that failing to do that is not centrally the fault of Brands and Silva.

As for Delph, he played over half the games where they got over 100 points. Across the two seasons he's played nearly half the games. I'm not sure how many average players can do that. Generally speaking sides that get to 98-100+ points in a season don't contain many average players.
I attack that plan by revamping the board with forward thinking businessmen who can maximise the club’s potential.

We’re in 2019 and still have the likes of Kenwright and Woods on the board, with a stadium plan being delivered by a failure like Keith Harris and a CEO like DBB who continues to spout rubbish at every opportunity.

Are you seriously putting any of them season performances down to Delph? He wasn’t central to anything, he was a bit part player.

As if you would have the first clue how to do this lol lol lol

What are your qualifications? Well i get several moans in on an internet forum before i have even got dressed

Brands has barely put a foot wrong since he arrived yet from the second this window has opened there have been people assuming the absolute worst from him based on zero evidence.

No, it’s not people assuming the worst, it’s fans keeping an open mind. He’s not put a foot wrong - he’s done neither a good job, nor a bad job. He’ll be judged on his acquisitions (same as Marco will be judged on results) and upto now (granted in a relatively short space of time) he’s done just about alright.

Why does Brands get such protection from our fanbase, as if his leadership cannot be disputed? Me criticising (or not, for that matter) his activities (or lack, thereof) is not going to directly or indirectly affect his ability to do his job. He’s a fair target, just as anyone else is.

Until he’s :

A) Identifying and acquiring players that cost very little and turn out to be worldies (Michu)
B) Negotiating and closing sales for current players above market value
C) Negotiating and closing acquistions for players below their actual market value (Digne)
D) Acquiring players we should have no business signing (Neymar)

Then i’ll gladly grant him all the patience in the world. Those are the four main metrics for a successful director of Football. He has good stock, but then so did Walsh.

Because Moshiri has a horrible track record. Its been better since Brands has been there, but Moshiri was the quintessential read the back of the newspaper type owner who didn't have a master plan. Since he's left footballing decisions to Brands, we haven't seen as many mistakes like Koeman, Allardyce, Klaasen, Sandro etc.

Well if Brands is Moshiri’s hire then we can’t just credit Brands with the good stuff and Moshiri gets the bad.

Moshiri made an error appointing Koeman and Walsh. They seemed like good appointments at the time and he backed them heavily but it was a mistake. At great expense though he got rid of them and a lot of the players they bought and he is now backing his new recruits. Let’s see if they work out. We’re probably 3 maybe 4 years behind schedule. After Koeman’s first season Moshiri spoke of getting into Europe as the first step on a 3 year plan. We could conceivably be back there next season effectively at the start of the plan again. It’s annoying that Koeman Walsh and co destroyed the team so much that they wasted 17/18 and left Silva with a two year rebuild just to get us back to where we were but that’s what has happened. We either stick to the plan and gradually get better or we may as well give up. There’s no short cut I don’t think. We don’t have the pulling power or the commercial revenue streams to allow us to just chuck billions at the problem to turn us into Chelsea in 04.

Exactly, I’d much rather be signing players from Palace, Ferencvaros and Burnley.
A good player is a good player, no matter where they come from.

Keane is from Burnley and is better than Mina who came from Barca, for example.

Would you be turning your nose up at Zara because he is from Palace?

Such a weird way to be trying to make a point.

This thread just gets worse. There’s always going to be opposing views - kind of the point of a forum - but you don’t have to all be biffs to each other over it.

All this calling someone “the Portuguese DCL” because he got 8 goals last year - Didn’t Richarlison only get 5 the year before we signed him, none of which came after November? And to pre-empt the “yeah but he was unsettled after Marco left” shouts, how do we know that Leao (sp?) hasn’t suffered similar disruption?

Don’t get me wrong, he could turn out to be flaming garbage, but don’t assume so just because he’s not already rattling in 30 a season (if he was he’d cost a lot more than we’re reportedly willing to pay).

So far I don’t think Brands has put a foot wrong (jury’s out on Mina but he showed enough that I think he could come good this year) so I’ll defer to his judgement. If he drops a clanger I’ll join the fume queue on here as quick as anyone.
