Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

PEDRO REPAYS FAITH SHOWN IN HIM

A very much one sided game at Elland Road saw Leeds United coast to victory. The sheer energy and pace exhibited from the Leeds side was too much for a below standard Bolton. Jed Wallace put in a man of the match performance creating a goal for Curtis Jones with a deep cross to the far post to find the attacking midfielder. Tom Lawrence doubled the lead 3 minutes after the start of the second half scoring a wonderful solo effort, weaving past Cavare before letting fly with his right foot into the bottom corner. The positive Bolton can take from this is that it wasn't more than 2. Ben Amos making some spectacular saves to keep the scoreline to a minimum. Bolton had 7 of their 8 shots on target but were unable to trouble Danny Ward in goal. Ferguson persisted with Joao Pedro up front but the centre forward was disappointing again and was replaced by Mampala with 30 minutes remaining. Ten minutes later Dwight McNeil twisted his ankle and had to leave the field. After the game it was confirmed McNeil would be missing for around 3-4 weeks.

A local derby saw a packed out University of Bolton stadium and after Ferguson's pre-match comments about the players wanting to repay their support shwon in them from the supporters, caused a fierce atmosphere which Bolton thrived under. A solid display from Bolton for the majority of the game keeping Wigan at bay and getting forward with Duke-McKenna down the left who found Oztumer but his looping effort as tipped over the bar. Bolton pushed hard and eventually got their reward, Bellusci found himself in the opposing half and after receiving the ball from Batty played a direct ball forward for Sean Robertson who powered one in on his right foot beating an outstretched Kelleher to send the home supporters into raptures of joy. Robertson getting the last kick of the game before the whistle finally blew.

The take away moment from the match has to be the superb goal scored by striker Joao Pedro late in the game. Pedro started the game on the bench and was deserved due to his poor form this season. Mason Murphy led the line with support from playmaker Oztumer behind. Murphy had a quiet game and was subbed with 20 minutes to go, up stepped Pedro. The man backed by his manager for all this time. He came on, he looked lively and chased down every loose ball. The Brazilian working hard for the team putting Huddersfield's defence under pressure. Oztumer fed a lovely ball forward to Pedro who controlled and took a look up to see where he was going to go. He took one look up before hitting a right footed shot from 20 yards out that struck the underside of the bar and went over the goal line! A fabulous strike and just what the Brazilian needed. It was enough to give Bolton back to back wins and put more points between them and the bottom three. A great victory!

DF: He's been working hard and he's the top performer every week in training. I've stood by him as I knew he had the quality. It took him time to get there but what a way to get there. He came up to me at the final whistle and could not thank me enough. I saw a player in there and we hope it is now going to come out. I'm happy for him today.

Bristol Rovers manager Michael Duff speaking before his sides encounter with Bolton Wanderers.

Ferguson made two changes to the side that beat Huddersfield and suggested it was due to fatigue. Nathan Byrne came in at right back and Remi Streete operated as the anchor man. Bristol Rovers took an unexpected lead through Trevor Clarke, the midfielder was in acres of space and found it easy to put the ball past Ben Amos. A wake up call for Bolton but a goal that kicked their supporters into touch to get behind their side. Stephen Duke-McKenna strolled forward beating two Rovers players before hitting an early cross for Pedro to chase, after getting there he launched his right foot at it first time putting it straight past Verhulst who would not have saved such a powerful effort. Pedro punching the air on equalising. Ferguson urged is team to get forward and be more attack minded. The charge being led by Duke McKenna and Oztumer but the winner was not to be found. Sean Robertson went down holding his hamstring and was substituted for Politic. The bad news is Robertson faces around 2 months out with a torn hamstring injury. The spoils were shared on a bit of a poor occasion for Bolton who felt they could have done more to take the three points. Ferguson stating in his post match interview how disappointed he was not to put Rovers to the sword and finish the job.

Bolton are now nine points clear of Bristol Rovers and ten points behind Sheffield United who are 6th. Play-offs surely must be a pipe dream with survival being the main aim. Can Bolton keep picking up points like they have been recently and cement a solid mid-table position this season? Will Joao Pedro begin firing on all cylinders after breaking his duck with that magnificent strike at Huddersfield? Sources close to Ferguson say he is not entertaining anything other than survival and staying in the Championship.

Ovreperforming?

Typical BBC Bristol media bias. Poor little Bolton, doing well to be in 16th? Get lost. Fancy Dans down there with their trip hop artistes and graffiti.

Another wasted season at the Reebok (Don't hold with it being called, La-de-dah University of fancy-schmancy Bolton Stadium). Pipe dream of 6th? Have you seen who are above us? Powerhouses! Can't expect 10 teams or so to free fall can you - doomed to be in this division another year.

Rubbish. I might well move back to Fylde if they hadn't got that useless idiot in charge.
