I still find it incredible that they threw this away.
That reminds me: hats off to posters on here like
@catcherintherye ,
@maccavennie ,
@Saint Domingo and others who never doubted that City would catch up and overtake them.
I should add though, that I can't remember a team throwing away a 10 point lead at Christmas. A think you'd have to go back as far as Keegan. Complete bottle job really.
More broadly I think this season will have bigger long term affects on the psyche. When the jubilations die down, they must start to wonder if they will ever win the league. However they seem as a collective almost too universally thick to recognise/reflect that their behaviour harms the team. Everything they think they do which is positive and helpful is unhelpful. They have to stop being themselves if they want to be the league.
All the small minded, arrogant, petty, Tory, bitter, abusive ways that they routinely show have to go if they want to win the league. Unfortunately for most it will be a sacrifice too far. They'd rather be gallant, hateful bitter losers than decent winners. It's their choice of course. While it leads to no shortage of abuse for many Evertonians (myself included) it's a price worth paying.
I do this out of generosity because I believe in loving thy enemy and all that. They need to stop going on about us, stop singing (inaccurately) about when we have or haven't won a league, stop having the ground filled with wealthy out of town supporters at the expense of local fans, stop pandering to that demographic, stop assuming a critique of globalisation is racism, stop thinking they are in way unique or special, stop thinking they are this enormous super club.
Do all of that and the brains at their club give them a chance of winning it. Don't and they will continue to spend hundreds of millions, season after season to not win the league. Honestly, has there been any other club, anywhere in the world that have spent what they have spent to not win a league? We must be talking multiple billions here they've spent. Incredible.
So there you go. That would be my advice to them. They won't heed it. History will repeat itself. First as tragedy, then as farce.
