If we do get 7th we will need to have at least 2 of every position that we feel confident starting in any game plus an extra player in midfield and at the back who is versatile and can cover multiple spots. So that's 24 players who we are confident in to the point that in any game against any level opponent we can toss them in. Assuming Zouma and Gomes both come back permanently, we currently need another GK, LB, RB, CB, Attacking midfielder, Striker and winger. Honestly I just don't see that as doable in a single transfer window so maybe just maybe we would be best served not having to go through the hell of 3 rounds of Europa League qualifiers.

Lets say we signed Gomes and Zouma...and lets say we kept our strongest 11

Pickford
Coleman Keane Zouma Digne
Gana Gomes
Sigurdsson
Richarlison DCL Bernard
At the very least we would need;
Left back
Defensive midfield
Centre midfield
Attacking midfield - Vlasic
Wide forward - Onyekuru
Centre forward

Thats 4 players without much upheaval and beinf conservative.

We definitely need a CB, GK and RB at a minimum as well. Holgate is not someone we should be relying on, Virginia has yet to make a first team appearance and LOL at Stek and Kenny has not impressed enough to not bring someone else in. So for me that is 7 minimum and that's assuming the likes of Lookman, McCarthy, Walcott and all the other fringe like players who would be in the team if we had more than one fixture a week want to stay as backups. Also assumes that Vlasic and Onyekuru actually come into the squad and are useful. If we make Europe and only sign 4 players it'll be very difficult to compete for both.
