Buys himself a month or 2 this result.

Marco did what most managers would do in this situation while Hughes was laser focused on saving his job (because they’re never beating Chelsea at the weekend). Just because the other guy did something desperate and stupid and it worked out doesn’t mean you had a bad plan.

Disappointed but not overly arsed tbh. This has become a competition between reserve teams of PL sides until it gets to the S/Fs, and our reserves lost a penalty shoot-out. 3 points on Saturday is more important hence the team selection. Any other PL manager would have done the same thing so the bedwetting is unnecessary and pointless.
cant believe this is coming from a supporter of our club....shocking post

It certainly wasn't "meaningless" to the thousands of people who parted with their hard earned to go there tonight.

If Silva is going to designate certain matched as "meaningless", presumably with the blessing of his boss, happen they should let the fans in for nowt.

Just a thought.

Yano.
Before I get overly critical of Marco, Khal, I'll wait and see how he suits up as a blue Santa in our vitally important Blue Chrimbo festivities. If him and Capt Jags and all the pixies and elves can bring a smile to all the folk in the orphanages, work-houses and debtors prisons liberally sprinkled about L4, then carpet-bagger Farhad's choice in manager will have been well vindicated.

I don't agree with Goat tbf, I don't think Silva thought this was a meaningless game.

I just think he thought we'd be good enough to win it.

I actually agree with you here mate. Although I’d add Schneids and a few others to that list. This year needs to be a cleanse of all the subpar players that Martinez and particularly Walsh and Koeman bought. A top 10 finish and a massive clear out will suffice.

That being said if you’re not planning on competing for a Euro league spot, you might as well have a go at the two cups.

A team won’t suddenly turn good unless you use that freak Leicester team which appeared for once every twenty odd years, as an example. As it lasts for one season.

Too many people expecting a complete turn around next summer but that is if there is an upward trend being shown here.

Before I had a go at Marco, I would question the wisdom of Mark Hughes playing his entire starting XI just to try and save his own neck. Squeezing out points in the league is their top priority, not this cup.

Mark Hughes only thinks of Mark Hughes mate.

Every game is about keeping himself in a job.

He`s in the same managerial bracket as Allardyce > self serving.

The worrying sign is people seem to accept the club to do badly this season. And to get an Euro spot is like the new holy grail all of a sudden.
It's just madness mate. The pitchforks would well be out if BFS was in charge of us right now but Silva gets a free pass!

I can accept that we're poor and unlikely to properly challenge the top six this season but for some reason others are perfectly happt to accept us being considerably worse providing BFS isn't here.

Im sorry you seem to have mixed me up.

Im not Marco Silva, im just a lad on the internet, I do not speak for Everton Football Club.

Happy to clear that up.

I'm usually very arsed at being knocked out of a domestic cup, but not that much here tonight, tbh.

Leicester was winnable but not an obvious victory for us.

We need to get top 10 and our PL house in order.

next season for the cups.

It's all good lads. Marco will get us there. ;)

Top 10 and a derby win or two. ;)
Why are you banging on about this top 10 being alls that matters when you were the one who always banged on about 5th place being just the same as 15th.

There shouldn’t be a free pass. This is Everton. Money being spent for 3 seasons. A manager is employed to fix the team and get results. I am not saying Silva should get top 4 now I just want him to be good at home, say get a reasonable 7th place finish and we can have something to build upon. If we are getting used to being crap we will just stay the same next season unless Mosh’s friend is willing to inject insane money and we continue to buy better players.

Not true.

Allardyce was brought in for 6 mths to stop us going down, not take us forward. ( no matter what he said in the press )

Silva and Brands have been brought in to clear out the Koeman / Walsh fiasco and hopefully move the club forward.

Even after the Summer clear out, the squad is still loaded with mediocre players.

He isn`t getting a free pass, most people are just being realistic with their expectations for the season - quite low.

We saw yet again that some of the fringe players aren`t good enough and I suspect a few more may get punted in January.

No manager in the world could sort out Koemagedon mess in one season mate.

Nobody is asking him to mate. All I'm asking is that he plays his best team in the only competition we stand a chance of winning. I Can deal with us being crap and I'm fine with low expectations but are we supposed to drop all expectations and just accept results that we'd of been fuming about under Moyes, Martinez, Koeman and BFS?
