New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

so the neighbours get to employ a nominally titled events officer and rent in a few wheelie bins, and that gets them planning for change of use? I suspect we may not have as easy a ride. There is a major legal confrontation every spring in Dublin where the local residents block Croke Park trying to stage 4-5 concerts each summer. They are invariably bought off but its quite the headache for the GAA who own it each year. No such issue for our neighbours

I remember Garth Brooks cancelling his whole Irish tour over it.

I remember Garth Brooks cancelling his whole Irish tour over it.

The Event Licence provided by DCC in accordance with the PP that exists for Croker stipulated three concerts per annum.

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL has said that it would have been “unprecedented” to allow all five Garth Brooks concerts to go ahead as the local authority outlined the reasons for refusing permission for two of the gigs.
In the event licence, seen by TheJournal.ie, Dublin City Council says that the concerts are being restricted to a maximum number of three in order to “minimise disruption to the neighbourhood in which the concerts are due to take place”.

It also noted that three consecutive concerts have already taken place in Croke Park in May when One Direction played.
Dublin City Council said in a statement that it considered all of the information submitted by the applicants – Croke Park Stadium and Aiken Promotions – as well as the information outlined at a series of event-related meetings.
“Given that Croke Park is situated in a heavily populated residential area, five shows in a row following on from the three concerts already held there this year is considered an over intensification of use of the stadium for the holding of special events/concerts”.

The promoters jumped the gun, organising 5 concerts for Brooks on the assumption that DCC with roll over and grant an exemption, and even put the tickets on sale. These sold out in rapid time -l I don't think any local residents got freebies.

DCC held firm in spite of huge pressure, saying they could allow an exemption for three (remember One Direction already had three) but not 5.
Brooks basically said all 5 or none - DCC did not blink and Brooks cancelled the whole lot!

I applauded DCC at the time for resisting some very serious pressure

No doubt, but promoters will follow the money. If the rs charge £1m for use of Anfield no promoter is going to pay us £1.5m to use BMD as they probably won't be able to make up that differential on tickets. Whereas if Anfield didn't exist as an alternative option we really might be in a position to set our own price.
We haven’t even raised finance or settled on design. I wouldn’t be too concerned about it tbf.
Disappointed but I can't say I'm surprised by the news. The councils always bend over for them. I'm still getting over Knowsley basically gifting them £5m worth of land and letting them build on playing fields.

On the plus side, if they make this work, it at least proves there is some non-match day income to made at BMD.

On the downside, it looks like they have at least 5 years without competition in the city, so that will be yet more millions added to the turnover gap. Also, the mere presence of Anfield as a viable alternative to BMD will likely limit what we can get away with hiring the place out for.

You also get the horrible feeling that this is a precursor to them extending Anfield further. If they announce that before BMD takes some tangible steps forward things could turn even more toxic.

They will apply for PP to rebuild ARE before we do for BMD.

I think they realised it's not worth doing, not cost effective for a few thousand seats.

Also - I remember they said Anfield can be like Fenway Park, an old, past it stadium given a lick of paint to look good instead of forking out for a new modern stadium.
