He is terrible in the air! He is good at heading ball under no pressure I suppose but his positioning is awful. Awful 1 on 1 too as he gets tangled up too easily.

I think with the ball at his feet he is somewhat adequate for a centre back. That is the only vague slight praise I will give him.

I’ve never seen a centre half turn more slowly in my life. All you need to do as an attacker is poke the ball behind him and you’re away. It’s painful to watch. The only game I can remember him being anything other than a terrifying liability was against Chelsea just before Christmas when we played a 5-5-0 formation for the 0-0

He had a gash! May have been a nasty one but still a gash. Or was it a boil? Something like that.

I hope he does improve but his positional play and lack of fight worry me. There is currently nothing "bad" about him (in the term you mean..he is obviously bad bad...) as I find him to be a bit of a fanny.

Throw £30m at Ajax for their young centre back. Pair him with Holgate and let them progress together. Our other defenders are beyond help.

Yup he needs someone beside him to carry him the entire game and clean up all of his mistakes.

Couldn't it be as simple as he's not suited to any form of defending, other than on the edge of the 18 yrd box ?

Oh and he has no positional sense, gets caught flat footed all the time and is a massive fanny.

Not really true that though. it was allardyce that made him take time out to recover from his injury and he spoke openly about his depression following his injury and how the crowd getting at him was not helping.

He's not the answer on current form, but he's better than people on here, often never have actually seen him play live, would have you believe.
