Not saying we should sack him or anything mental like that, but I can’t see him lasting long. Especially not with that absolute joke of a team. The words poisoned chalice come to mind.
He just needs to survive this season, Like we can't be teetering around relegation again I'll take anything from 7th to 13th if possible. It's ANOTHER rebuild job again because of the Koeman and Walsh.

The nearest we played to how Silva wants to play was under Unsworth, who also likes to press. I know some people blamed him for conceding so many goals but he was severely hamstrung by the players at his disposal. There are a few lessons from that period that still apply. We really need two pacy commanding centre halves. If not Holgate is better than Keane when playing a high press. We need a new left back and we need a new defensive midfielder who can also distribute it well to start attacks. Neither Schneiderlin or Gueye are that player. Up front Niasse is the best forward to play the pressing game. That’s just some basic lessons from that time which need addressing by Silva before we start the season. The fact that none of them have is concerning.
Jesus, Silva does not employ a high press. He's a counter attacking manager. He doesn't play a high line, either.

Reactions: Tak

Looked quite high today saying that Jags/Keane couldn't move fast enough anywhere.

Moving up the field when we have the ball in their final third does not constitue a high line. When we've got the ball around midfield they are usual pretty far back.

I just don’t think we are going to be able to play how he likes personally I’d drop the defence back a bit and pack the midfield with besic, gueye, Davies, macca and beni and just have the front 6 press the shitzen out of the team and try quick counters

How about we give him time and a couple of windows to implement the system and style he prefers rather than reverting to unsustainable stone age hoofball with 2 banks of 5 parked in a double decker bus?

He needs time and Brands and the board need to get him the defenders he wants. That's how competent clubs operate. There's physically no way he can set up where Keane Jags and Williams would not be massive liabilities. He needs signings now.

because if we play his style of football with the current crop of players we could be bottom of the league at Christmas.

The fact we still haven't signed any defenders with the window so close to closing is worrying, I get a horrible feeling hell play his system even if he doesnt get the players he wants this window

If Keane and Jags are back two, we need to defend deep with two defensive midfielders other wise well concede 2-4 goals per game.

No let’s sign the bloke who had a quarter of a season as a decent manager at Watford instead of Arteta our fans said.

As ever, our fans showed mummy has to dress them.

Lets sign an ex player of ours who left the club on deadline day with no time to replace him, who has zero, repeat ZERO, managerial experience because he works under one of the best current managers today

As ever some of our fans need straight jackets

Got to give Silva his dues, almost every player available and at his disposal has been given lengthy game time this pre-season to impress, they can't argue that, the fact the vast majority have failed their auditions will at least have given him an idea of the task in hand.
Absolutely. Results suggest otherwise but there has been improvement in our style of play compared to the tripe we were served up last season. Bar Coleman that entire defence needs binning and Stek is no replacement for Pickford. Silva wants that high press but with players like Keane it’s impossible and we can’t and shouldn’t be relying on a 36 year old Jags to save the day.
I pray over the next 10 days the club give Silva and Brands the best possible chance of doing their job and they get the players they need.
