Usmanov

I think both motives exist. There is a lot to be said not just for the profile/ego but also the security that would come from being involved at a football club. It also generates a lot of power within a certain region (much less so in England than Russia to be fair) and influence on decisions in said area. So there is an altruism.

That being said I agree he's primarily a business man. Everton remains a massively under developed asset. It is the one club formally of the top 5 of the PL not to be monetised properly. It has a unique and compelling brand as well as a very loyal set of supporters. Any investor would see enormous potential there.

Alongside that, the city of Liverpool remains a bit of an untapped resource. You have a Mayor who is very keen to facilitate his investors but also the opportunity to buy land and property at a price that is significantly below London but also some of the rival cities in the North. You also have a water front which is world famous and different agencies looking to poor money in. Liverpool is already growing but with strategic investment that will continue to grow at a higher pace.

It's really not difficult to see, what an investor sees in the project. Look at Canary Wharf 20 years ago. Imagine if you owned numerous properties there now, as well as having a 55k stadium there, a PL team in that area and be known as the person who kick started it.

Interestingly, Liverpool voted to stay in the EU yet conversely if the UK leaves the EU, Liverpool could once again emerge as a major port. There is a great potential in Liverpool waiting to be realised.

If he sells his shares and it’s an if at this stage, they ain’t all going to anybody in one big hit are they so he can simply pump all that dough into a quiet corner of L4 is he? Kroenke holds enough shares to maintain majority control, so why pay top dollar or ruble to a long term adversary who holds a lucrative minority holding to simply line his pockets?

Now I ain’t well versed on matters of billionaires and their motives but a simple equation of Usmanov getting weighed in at The Gunners overnight and joining the Goodison Revolution because it’s better up here and so he can finally be in charge doesn’t cut it for me. So, if this does actually happen you’ll get why they are billionaires and I’m some lad who just wants Everton to be back to what we used to be.....boss at football, winning stuff and generally having a go. You know, just like this year is going to be!

Kroenke would like all the shares so he float on the US stock market. That's where the mega bucks are to be made.

My guess is that Premier League football clubs are playthings to the super-billionaires. Sure, they need to be run as healthy investments but they’ll happily take a hit sometimes because it’s more as a symbol of their prestige than for large gains in fortune. For me, they’re status symbols, like yachts. Like this one

100m long, 100m high. Imaginatively entitled ‘Sailing Yacht A’. Eur 300M. The Ruskie billionaire who owns that monster is in the same cabal and income league as Usmanov, and the dude has another boat called ‘Motor Yacht A’, similar size and price tag, but no masts / sails on it, just a pure motor yacht- in case you get bored of sailing, I guess.

Football clubs started to take on trinket status a long time ago with Abramovic and the Emiratiis. The yanks look to turn them into profitable US franchise-like businesses.

So my point and pet theory (all conjecture) is that Mosh and Al are trying to see if they can elevate the status of Everton to a similar level to that of The Arse - annual CL qual, stadium, win a pot, attractiveness of the club to top talent, etc - before Al will jump ship and shift his backing and prestige formally to L4. The Project in the beginning (and still) has many risks in it, on the pitch and off it.

For mega billionaires like Big Al, I think using Mosh only and 150-250M play money for 3-5 years, as a risk mitigation, around a set of larger and (at the time of the initial stake purchase) much more risky investments (stadium) is a good approach. Why would Al immediately put his name to a high-risk dud? We may be approaching that tipping point with the change in manager, Brands joining, stadium moving forward, etc.

I think it’s a positive sign for us and the longer term Project he’s thinking more seriously about selling his Arsenal stake.

Everton is a minor part of the whole caboodle. The waterfront property possibilities are the holy grail.

Who’s Al

Not sure I buy it.

Yes it’s a valuable piece of real estate potentially, but there’s real estate in London worth just as much all over the city.

It’s hardly a ‘holy grail’ for a multi billionaire.

Property on the Mersey waterfront, etc, will probably be a better investment than the overpriced highly competitive market in London. In any case Usmanov will probably have his eyes on both areas, plus others.

It really won’t Steve. A one bedroom flat in Chelsea is probably the same price as a 4 bedroom detached in calderstones. People are massively overplaying this Liverpool Waters scheme, it’s a 40-50 year build project
