Blues in relegation scrap says Allardyce

Hate to say it but we are poorer than they both were.Could you see us beating Arsenal or winning at Chelsea or the pit?

That's the problem, I wouldn't fancy our chances against anyone including Swansea.

Nobody is getting 'tailed off' like previous seasons so does this mean 40 points is enough or is it much lower (maybe any stats lovers would know)?

Can't believe some of our fans thinking we won't go down as if saying it makes it true. When Swansea beat the rs tonight there will only be 8 points covering 11 teams.

Horrendous man. Think if he stays around he may well break his duck on never being relegated.

And anyone saying there are 'x' number of teams worse than us then they are only watching motd. We are awful and this bloke has no idea how to fix things.

The standard of the premier league bar Man City this season is absolute garbage. We would be last playing the way we are in any other season.

Thankfully there are about 10 teams worse than us this season so there is virtually no chance of us going down - I don't believe there ever was.

Allardyce should never have been appointed and was only appointed after Martin O'Neill turned down the short term contract Allardyce is on now.

He'll be gone on June 1st if not before. Now that Silva is available I'd imagine we've already talked to him about next season.

I don't get this. We are 9th and have just spent £50m on two strikers after spending £150m in the summer.

If you keep saying relegation and appointing meffs like Allardyce then it becomes self fulfilling. We've appointed a manager to stave off relegation so that's all we are aspiring too.

Get him gone as soon as and bring someone in that wants to target the top 6. The money is there it just needs spending more shrewdly and with greater long term commitment.

Worthy of its own thread IMO.

Ridiculous comments from an Everton manager who has just spent near £50m on 2 players to join a load of other top internationals.
Here here.

We've denegrated back to the bad old days of knife to a gunfight. With the subtle difference that our squad is jampacked with seasoned Internationals and U21 potential, we pay by far the highest wages outside tge top 6, and our squad cost is probably about the 6th highest in the league.

We should be battling at the other end of the table.

Allardyce has been in charge for nearly 10 weeks now and we are clearly going backwards. This is clearly an attempt to switch blame to the players imo. Whilst they aren't blameless, the mindset of players is the responsibility of the manager, as is style of play and team formation, all of which are dire at the moment.

The buck stops with him, needs to get it sorted, he has a squad of 31, no excuses, sort it or ship out.

I'm not even sure Fat boy will sign up. The board have made us the least attractive PL appointment since Sunderland. 6 weeks and we end up with Allardyce, boggles the mind. Mark my words this appointment leads to relegation, maybe not this season but within three. This is a spiral we have seen at numerous other clubs. Bring in an "old school" manager, watch your standing in the UK and abroad diminish, the first two factors combine to stuff the club with older, mercenary players on big wages who won't leave when the excrement hits the fan and who decline in talent and application over the length of their contracts all leading to a generation of mediocrity (most likely in the championship or, I shudder to think, lower). This is short termism in extremis.

This ^^^ is what I said just before BFS signed up. Nothing has changed my mind since.

If you can't say something positive, then as a manager, say nothing at all.

I don't think he could ever come out and say "Relegation? - No chance" but perhaps its the first real sign of frustration from him with some elements of the squad.

Even so, it's washing dirty linen in public to a degree and doing us down - I don't think anything good comes from that.

He is manager - and whatever his thoughts are - its his job to fix this.

He's right

We've been in the relegation scrap for most of the season

He shouldn't have advertised it in such a manner though
Mikey.

After week 19, half way through the season and after we've played every team once (actually we had played Chelsea twice and hadn't played 19th placed Albion at all) we were in 9th position on 26 points, 6 points behind Spurs and 11 points above the drop zone.

As a snapshot that was poor and had reflected a very disappointing first half of the season. But in no way would that have been considered a relegation scrap.

We really shouldn't be in one now tbh. The squad we have and the games we have left, we should be able to put together 10 points (which will be more than enough). The reason we have fears of this are our recent performances against Albion (twice) and Bournemouth. We've been outplayed 3 times against 2 of the poorest teams in the league, and responsibility for this lies at the door of the manager and nobody else. It was that way with Koeman and Unsworth, and so it should be with Allardyce too. Koeman started blaming his players too and that, for me, spelled the end for him.

I think the guy has to go now.
