Whilst I agree Walsh is totally gash, so I'm just playing Devil's advocate here for a moment, at the end of the day maybe Moshiri etc have said they will only pay a certain fee for Tosun, and won't go any higher, so if Besikitas don't accept that fee (and they do keep moving the goalposts) then Walsh's hands are tied?
Walsh should be persuading the player and player then pushes for the move etc... When did you ever see Monchi go to a club and say "oh we'll give you it then"

never.

Oh.....
Well would you look at that.....

"Everton have made an offer for Cenk, reports that we increased his price are false, our vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi has been leading negotiations," Orman said.

:coffee:

But why are we buying these players when we never play them then. Only quality should be brought in.

I think the player being in this country could be perceived as pushing for the move.

At the end of the day none of have a clue about what's happening with the negotiations, also, it doesn't matter how much Walsh leans on Tosun, and how much grief Tosun gives Beskitas, he's their player, and they are the ones who say "yay or nay"

I think a new manager coming in and wanting to fully assess the squad plus have a say in the targets is probably a rather large part in it...

And by the accounts of Hunter and Joyce, we moved back for Giroud in November. He didn't want to come.

So December has been about enquiries (Aubameyang, pointlessly) and such. The first rumblings of a bid for Tosun came around the 20th of December.

All being well, it should be wrapped up today. It would have been rubber stamped tomorrow (hence Walsh's trip to Turkey last week), but Besiktas upped their asking price over the weekend.

That's why their president is now getting involved as we want to make sure this deal goes through and they aren't pulling any tricks.

We're literally doing just what you asked. What difference does it make if he'd signed yesterday as opposed to getting it done today? Which, as I said, is only a result of Besiktas messing us around.

The key is how we react to this deal.

If it goes well, great. Get him in. I don't see the point in rushing him in to the team for the derby anyway, it won't make a difference. Rather him be given a proper time to settle in and get accustomed to the league, and then we might see what he can deliver, rather than get the Sandro/Klaassen scenario. Get him in, get him settled, but straight away be moving on to the next position of priority.

If it does go south, we need to have 2-3 targets already lined up and ready to go. If that isn't the case we truly will know massive changes are needed.

I can fully understand the new manager wanted to evaluate the squad, but he absolutely must have known from before he signed that we have no striker & one ageing left back.

The DoF, who’s now been in position for 18 months will surely have conveyed that to him & you would hope, had a list of targets.

Players can be approached & deals done at any time. They can only be registered during the window. Striker & LB should have been signed & sealed, ready for the window opening.

The FA Cup is our only chance of silverware & probably our only chance of Europe next season (unless we scrape 7th & hope the top 6 win both cups). If the club had genuine ambition to progress beyond Friday, then they’d have done whatever it takes to have had a striker & LB in training on the 1st of Jan.

Achieve these 4 things in Jan or he has failed again,
Sign striker
Sign left back
Sign centre half under 30
Sell/get rid of Mirallas, Stek and Snides

he'd have known that, but Walsh may have had a list of targets that Allardyce didn't want...
