Ronald Koeman discussion

Rooney is such a huge downgrade on Lukaku and Barkley in everything he does. Open your eyes.

Why do you think United gave him to us for free? Their fans were doing cartwheels when they got rid of him.

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong

so rooney is an apparent downgrade on what we had? i forget who else scored for us last season? if im right the next top goal scorer was 5 ish last season. rooney has 4 this season

right right right right right

I think he's got to go.

I've listened to and read various opinions on him. Some suggesting he gets time, others saying he's inevitably heading for the door.

There's a lot of talk around the sheer amount of money we've spent and also the need to allow players time to bed in. With the amount of cash going out (albeit we recouped a big chunk of that on Rom) comes expectation, let's face it, we are failing miserably. The last good performance we turned in was the first half away to City. Our system and style of play make our recruitment of those to play in it baffling. No pace, no creativity, 3-4 No.10s, no striker, two holding players, Barkley situation, Niasse situation, Kev Mirallles, Inevitable Europa exit, 5 league goals scored all this with a turgid, boring pedestrian style of play.....

Maybe writing this before I finish my morning coffee isn't a good idea, but I just don't see this guy getting it right/turning us around.

@davek you were right!

Funny you should say that as that was probably the last time Gylfi wasn't playing.

Lads, lads, can't we just agree they were both useless?

Martinez had an idea of what he wanted to do but couldn't coach it and couldn't do the basics like organise a defence (once the Moyes era players started to decline) and keep players fit and motivated.

Koeman was able to organise a defence and get players fit. However his signings don't fit in with his system and massive gaps are left in the first XI.

Any new manager is going to need a centre back. Baines challenger and a striker as a minimum. Patching things up with Mirrallas and Barkley would help massively too.

In a nutshell ;)

In a nutshell ;)

It's not though is it really?

We seem to have written Koeman off after 15 games. Win the next couple of games and the fickle nature of football fans will come back with aplomb.

Martinez was a relegated manager and had previous for being crap.

Koeman has been a consistent premier league manager as his league finishes prove, 7th, 6th and 7th. Chalk and cheese my friend.

I remember the interview with Koeman when he said he wanted exactly that! And he got none of them. I'm almost certain he's not the one in charge of the transfers, which is why I don't think he should be the one held accountable for the issues caused by the transfer policy in the Summer.

Mirallas has flattered to deceive for 3 managers now. He can look good in patches, but he's had plenty of chances when starting games to show he's a first team player and not taken them.

Barkley has his own reasons for leaving and I don't think Koeman is the main one.

Bar one half against City and one half against Split, it's been fifteen games of unmitigated, mind numbing turgid football, with absolutely no sign of an upturn anytime soon.

Most clubs would've got shut by now.

We're not going to win the next two games mate, it's going to be more of the same, as he shoe horns the same players into a system that everyone except him can see isn't working.

If by some miracle we happen to win the next two games, I will humbly apologise to you mate.

It still won't change my opinion of him though.

Past performance gives no guarantee of future performance...well known fact.

And that is fair enough.

My response though was more in line to @Timak 's suggestion that they were both useless.

I have stuck by Koeman and said end of October if things do not improve. Look at the response to Leicester getting rid of their manager yesterday though as an example. Some times things need a little time. If we bin every manager after every bad run, we stand a chance of joining our Geordie and Leicester friends as the laughing stock of the English PL.

To be fair, Chelsea have dumped their managers pretty quickly in the past - for every Conte that has hung on, you've had Scolari, AVB, Di Matteo just after winning the CL, etc etc. Sometimes it needs to happen and doesn't mean you're a laughing stock.

Also, are Leicester a laughing stock? They won the league pretty recently and sacking Ranieri was sadly necessary as he'd suffered a mutiny and won 5 games in 25, and Shakespeare because he's a bad seat-kicking snake.

Well yes I am more than aware of that Degs, there has to be a cut off point I agree. Just not 100% sure it is right now.
I'd rather it had been 12 mths ago...sometimes you just get the vibe - and I did back then. End it quick, sometimes it isn't working, nor will it.
I suppose I can live with after the Watford game and before the next break - BUT NO LATER FFS.

I know, it is fine lines and all that. I am just not one for pulling the trigger too quickly perhaps. if we had done that with Kendall we would not have gone onto success in the following years perhaps.

We live in a very disposable society now though and things are very different.
