Ronald Koeman discussion

I think Martinezs first season was overrated. Very good until Christmas then he was found out a bit and had a good bit of luck to grind out some 1-0s. We were never actually close to 4th.
Instead the 3rd season he was very unlucky. They played well in the first half. Had a lot of awful decisions go against them and team morale clearly collapsed. He still got to 2 cup semis.
Koeman helped reorganise and focus them last year. Gaining predictable results and finishing in the predicted position whilst nowhere in the cups.

"never actually close to 4th" - table after our 3-0 win over Arsenal with 6 games to go begs to differ.

We finished 7 points off 4th.

There are plenty, and i mean PLENTY of sticks to be Martinez with. Regarding that first season, you've got nothing.

You don’t want Everton to lose, but you’ll happily accept defeat to get rid. So it could be defined as “wanting Everton to get beat lite”

I guess you had the same outlook with Kendall then; good job you didn’t force him out then. Amazing how one small turn of events changed an entire fortune and future of a team
I wanted Kendall out, and I was RIGHT dammit! :)

Anyone know if he's here working with the team trying to fix this mess he's created or if he's gone on another holiday?

the majority of the team aren't here mate.

the ones that aren't on international duty have also been given time off.

I don't know what Koeman's doing.

They'll be back in at the weekend just like last time, and the players returning from int'l duty will be in next week

Well we did bottle getting 4th spectacularly. But not like we never see Everton bottling things is it?

Anfield derby and FA Cup capitulation at the Emirates aside, I've never been more excited/confident as an Evertonian heading into the end of that season.

Was a brilliant season and the most exciting for me that I have seen as a fan so far, after the time we finished 4th ofc.

Did we though?

I had the impression at the time that as soon as we got into a qualifying position points wise that the top 4 just raised the bar to stop us. We would have had to get 80 points thst year which most seasons has us in a title race let alone a 4th place.

No.

Had we beaten Palace we'd have been two points above Arsenal I think - as that was our game in hand.

We lost that and then fell apart by either drawing or losing the next two games IIRC?

Or, we may have beaten Man Utd in the next game but by then Arsenal had gone ahead. Something like that.

You can define my words any way you like. Even using American expressions like 'lite' if it makes you feel better. Howard was a different case. As others have already stated, he earned our patience by being one of us - and a special one at that. Personally, I was already long trousers when he was managing us first time around and no, I never did throw a cushion at the pitch

Absolutely, it wasn't without the odd blemish! The football, the attitude of the club...everything was a breath of fresh air.

Quite inconsequential but I remember being on the game at home vs Newcastle. Absolutely battered them and I mean DESTROYED them.

So sad that the wheels came off.

I was happy with Koeman after some persuasion but i do fear that he has ripped the soul from the attacking threat we used to possess.
