I would rather have kept Lukaku and not bought any of the new purchases. Top 4 - NO CHANCE. We may even finish outside the top ten with this squad.

For the squad to be better off we just needed a certain standard of striker -- obviously going to be a lower level than Lukaku -- in addition to all the business we have done. That would leave us well placed to build on what we had, and cope with increased demands this season. Going with Lukaku plus nothing would've been just as bad as bringing in what we have without any replacement for Lukaku.

I understand why we left it late - I half expected it - but serious mistakes have been made by the people at the top (Walsh, the board, whoever) if we don't get those two positions, or at least one.
