I see him as a poor man's Bolasie

I guess I understand the logic (assuming we also have a big man striker), but I was hoping we would be aiming way, way higher than him

Unless Steve Walsh sees something I don't

..I really haven't seen enough to judge. I'm not sure Bolasie knows what he's doing half the time, he's unconventional. I'm not sure this fella is the same, although they are both big strong athletes. Niang is reported to have an attitude problem, I don't mind arrogance as long as he plays like the game matters. I assume Walsh will have done his homework (if the rumour is correct).

I'd only entertain the idea of him coming here if Rom was staying and Niang would have a pure impact sub role. He had some really good games for Watford early into his spell and looked like he generally had something to offer but went completely cold very quickly.
Think about the Watford team though. If you watched them at all you could see they literally gave up after getting to relative safety. That's why Deeney was so mad and why he apologized to the fans so much.

I'd put much more stock in his early performances.

Fair point, being on loan and having absolutely zero intention in staying longer probably didn't add much to his motivation either.

What I mean by the comparison is that they are both the sort of powerful runners who can turn defence into attack

As I've already said, Niang's delivery is also decent

In fact, decent example of it with both feet on his debut for Watford...

That game was probably the peak of his spell at Watford, it was a general downhill slope from there

For M'Baye Niang, Arsene Wenger rated him so high. Before Niang made his debut for Watford he said

"He’s a very talented striker individually, and he can create chances. He’s very strong as well physically, and very quick.... He's on loan from AC Milan and we have to keep him quiet because he’s a guy who can do something special."

For a 22 year old young player, I think that he hasn't reach his high and can improve to be a world class player under a good coach. Don't forget that Steve Walsh has traced him for a long time before he become our DoF.
