You can see Barkley there trying more vertical passes from deeper central positions while Sigurdsson is all about putting the ball in the box from out wide.

This is where Sigurdsson’s game falls down. He’s well below average at making the more difficult passes stick. Evertonians will be interested to note that Sigurdsson profiles like a poor man’s Rooney here or a very poor man’s Coutinho/Silva/Ozil/Firmino.

Barkley on the other hand is above average at making more difficult passes stick and profiles as a poor man’s Yaya Toure, or a very poor man’s Fabregas.

On top of this, over the last two years Sigurdsson’s involvement has dropped to the point where Barkley is passing the ball twice as much as the Icelander during a game.

Neither comes out as anything like the man to take Everton onwards and upwards but Barkley is a clear winner in the general passing stakes.

I was surprised by how poorly my model rates Sigurdsson’s passing. It’s one you’d want further opinions on from the video guys and the scouts in the stand.

Pretty conclusive that Ross is vastly a better player than this Icelandic clown.

Yeah, and even though he's making an hell of a lot more passes, he's being less productive. And folk will say well he's only setting this up through set pieces. So, an assist is an assist! To be able to take a FK or corner like him is some ability. We haven't got a single player in our squad that can do it these days, not even Barkley!

It's only a matter of opinions but for me we would be better with Sigurdsson in the team than we would Barkley.

"Made it up" is a bit strong. Do you seriously get the impression that he'll be gutted if Barkley goes? Because I (and I'm not alone) certainly don't.

Not saying he actively wants him to leave, but not convinced he's desperate for him to stay either. And much as it pains me to say, I can see why. Sadly he's never massively kicked on from the player who made his debut all those years ago, as we'd all hoped he would.

He seems pretty peed off about it imo, setting his own deadlines and as good as throwing his toys out of the prem dont sound like actions of a man that is not bothered!!!

I genuinely would be worried if Guaye left, I believe he's the cog that Koeman has to build around
It would be so everton that we have reached agreement for one of our top targets, talk of others following and yet we might lose our best 2 players from last year.

I'm a long long long long way on one side of that fence. And it involves Wilfried Bony going to China.

The reason I'm getting splinters is I think he'd offer us something different with deep lying teams in Europe this season. I expect a lot of counterattack against us and when we can break that he's the type to retain quick turnovers. That said if he gets on the slow boat good luck to him

Mate. He couldn't even get in a really crap Stoke side ahead of Peter bloody Crouch last season.

There's loads on here of new Everton getting into there stride so I'm going to blinker this one like it wasn't me in a crowded lift passing silent but deadlies
