Everton are not willing to meet Sunderland’s £30m valuation of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The Blues, the ECHO understands, had an offer of £8m turned down earlier this month.

Everton remain keen on 23-year-old but have baulked at the relegated Black Cats’ price tag.

It is believed that the Blues hierarchy would be willing to go as high as £15m for the England under-21 international.

Sunderland don’t want to be seen to sell their star player on the cheap following their demotion to the Championship but risk pricing themselves out of the market by slapping.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman remained coy on whether he would target a new goalkeeper this summer but the ECHO understands that Pickford has been on their wishlist for several months.

The young stopper has impressed this term despite Sunderland’s struggles and Everton are leading the chase for his signature.

Jordan Pickford
But they are prepared to walk away from negotiations if Sunderland persist with their £30m valuation of Pickford.

Pickford made 135 saves this season, the second highest in the division behind Burnley’s Tom Heaton.

Joel Robles finished the season in goal for the Blues but admitted last week that his future is “not very clear”.

Completely embarrassing.

Who do we think we are offering that sort of money?

We supposedly went up to £60m for Koulibaly, but are baulking at Sunderland's asking price for Pickford?

I like Pickford, but NO ONE is going to pay $30M for him. Him being English is a benefit to English clubs, but what sizable club needs a keeper?

If that Pickford story is true, the club is having a lend of itself and I wouldn't have grave doubts about its plans for the summer.

TBF a 30 million asking price is equally as ridiculous as offering 8 million IF it's true of course.

Again, we have no idea of the accuracy of the article, but if they are bang on the money this time (LOL) then one thing is for sure, little has changed and it's gonna be one long frustrating summer yet again.

Not saying I believe that article and not debating whether Pickford is worth the £30m or not. But if we're not prepared to overpay or meet the selling clubs valuation, or at least close to it, it for sure is going to be a long frustrating summer.

If we're genuine about our top 4 ambition then surely we must realise we can't achieve that by making unrealistic low bids for the star players of other teams. It will cost money and lots of it to even keep the gap with the top 6 at the same size at it is now.

So refusing to pay it and haggling is a good thing ?

Ah bad thing .

If they want £30m for Pickford , making him the second most expensive goalkeeper ever I'd consider it ridiculous if we didn't try and negotiate a deal . Especially as it doesn't seem there is any kind of bidding war for the lad.

As regards the the reported £8m bid , we have no idea if that true but I'd suspect if there is any truth in it then that'd be an initial payment as part of a structured deal. Making an initial offer of £30m in this case wouldn't indicate things have changed it'd just indicate that we're deploying ridiculous negotiations in the market .

...morning summary;

- Liverpool Echo reports Everton are keen on Jordan Pickford but will not pay Sunderlands £30m asking price. They say Everton had an initial £8m bid turned down.

- 4th Official suggest Koeman has found Barkley's replacement in Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri.

- Spanish newspaper, Diario Sur says Everton are after Real Madrid CB Diego Llorente who has been on loan at Malaga.

- A Sky reporter says Arsenal have agreed a fee for Everton target Henry Okenyuru.

Bidding for a player is clearly news, do you know how transfers work?
Clearly not.
I'll be clearer... Bidding for a player and getting rejected is not news.... 'worth hearing'.
Christ, Everton aren't mentioned by the media unless it's our players getting sold or being rejected by others. Its boring.
Actually..... Er you are right *edit*
I'm not having a pop at you, just the situation....and the news you delivered wasn't exactly what anyone wants to hear.... Or needs at the mo. This place gets a lil negative until the first player signs.... And then again until the next.
Please carry on.

Exactly. Do we want Pickford or not? He's been linked for a while now so I'd guess there is genuine interest there but 8 million bids won't even get Sunderland around the negotiating table ffs.

It's entirely believable though isn't it? We've done this kind of thing now for years and it smacks of same old.

Look how long the "negotiating" took for Schneiderlin in January. The wheels were said to be in motion way before January but it took all month and a public strop from the manager to get what was a seemingly straight forward deal done! We wanted him, United were willing sellers, the player wanted to come and the money was there so why take so long?

It's the nit picking over tiny details that Kenwright is renowned for. We have so much to do this summer both in and out and just look at how long we usually take doing one deal let alone several.
