Chris Cornell RIP

I'm a big music fan starting with prog rock in my early teens in the seventies, through punk, new wave, and the eighties scene. Picked it up again mid nineties through to today. Love most genres tbh.

However there is this black hole from the late 80s to mid 90s when I seemed to lose all interest in music. Also coincided with me taking a sabbatical from the blues now I think about it. I've never really thought about it before but I guess it coincided with a period when I was particularly ambitious at work.

The upshot is that the Grunge/Seattle scene completely passed me by. Of course I know of Nirvana's hits and am a big fan of the Foo fighters, but by the sounds if it I'm missing out on something special and there's a whole genre waiting to be discovered. Apart from Nirvana and Soundgarden, who else should I be on the lookout for?

The soundtrack to the movie Singles is not a terrible starting point really.....a lot of different acts on it. Chris Cornell has a great solo song called Seasons on it

As well as Seattle based music. Worth looking at most of Steve Albini's production work/bands too.

Slint, Shellac, The Jesus Lizard, Dinosaur Jr.

Mad season, mudhoney are a few more worth a listen, and check out a film made about the Seattle sound called hype.

Been clean from drugs since about 2003 mate, but god knows how long he'd been suffering with mental problems. It really is scary to think how normal everything can appear from the outside, even to those closest to you. None of his family or band mates saw this coming.

Struggled with alcoholism until a few years ago.

Pearl Jam's album "Ten" is essential listening. The definitive sound of early 90s rock, packed with hits as well such as Alive, Jeremy and Even Flow.

The Replacements would have had a major influence on the bands listed in the last few posts. Check them out too.

Massive Pavement and Replacements fan......even if I got into both once I had moved away from my grunge obsession. good shouts.
