Summer Transfer Window 2017

I remain massively unconvinced about Pickford

Highlights video of his saves this season - I reckon there's maybe two in there which aren't saves he should be making 100% of the time, and there's a few examples of him making poor decisions or not pushing the ball away from danger properly when he makes a save

Looks like Pickford is joining.

This comes from (strangely enough) a West Ham ITK (exwhuemployee) who said they were interested but he's off to us. He's actually spot on usually and was used multiple times as a source for sky transfer stories etc.

When this happens im claiming ITK status

Im claiming ITK!!!

Sunderland fans seem to think £17m is an absolute steal.

Client of mine is a Sunderland season ticket holder (poor sod!!). Reckons Pickford is the real deal though. Match going fans are gutted about him and Defoe leaving. All the others they are NEA about.

Anything under 20 million in today's market for a keeper we could have for 10-15 years is good business in my eyes.

Problem is though most keepers don't always save the shots they should be making 100% of the time. If they did we wouldn't need to replace Robles would we.

I understand why people rate him, he's had an awful lot of work to do this season and I think it's easy to look good when you have loads of shots to save - people aren't going to blame him for them getting beat every week as they're awful.

The bigger thing for me is to look at the other aspects of his game because he wouldn't be facing as many shots for us. What's his decision-making like? How is his concentration? How good is he at claiming crosses? Etc etc etc

Just think the jury is out at the moment. There are loads of examples of keepers at the bottom end of the league who have looked good because of the amount of work they've been required to do but have turned out to not be all that special when you take them out of that environment. David Marshall is the last one I can remember who people were falling over themselves saying we should buy.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I think Pickford would be a good signing.
I agree with you. Given the persistent rumours ,l paid particular attention to him at Goodison. While most people seem to think he was poor , I actually thought he did well considering he was by far the busier goalie. Certainly we are talking the dreaded word 'potential ' here , but given his age , he has time to perfect his craft. Our existing goalies in comparison have reached an age where they are probably as good as they'll ever be, and that currently isn't good enough.

He should have caught them all.

I pay quite a bit of attention to goalkeepers when I watch footy as I used to be one when I played (at a crap level), not saying I'm an expert obviously but I naturally look out for things they do and attributes that stand out. Not seen Pickford every single week but when I've seen him I've noticed he looks really composed for his age, when you compare him with a 23 year old Robles who would flap at everything and make you nervous every time the ball went near him. Pickford doesn't suffer from this, he looks a lot more experienced than he actually is. He's also really good at holding shots and crosses, only parries if he absolutely has to but most of the time when he can get two hands to a shot, he'll hold it. An underappreciated skill that, De Gea is the master of it. Pickford looked dodgy against us, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt after coming back from injury!

Things like decision making in terms of coming out for crosses or coming out to close down angles, I haven't seen an error from him as yet in that department. He has all the makings of a top keeper, obviously he has a long way to go to get to that level but the ability is there. Reminds me of a young Joe Hart when he first broke through at City.
