Can't say I'm sold on Maguire, think he'd be a good mid-table player. Think Keane and Gibson have the talent to play at the top, and have really brought something to their teams this year.
If you look at the goals conceded for each respective team you can see the influences they have on their teams:
Everton 37
Burnley 49
Hull 67
Boro 43

If Maguire was so good you would expect that Hull would have conceded a lot less. I appreciate he may be good with the ball at his feet but as we know with John Stones, first and foremost you need to be able to defend.

For that reason I think Gibson and Keane are better shouts and as you mentioned Keane's price seems massively inflated, and with Boro going down Gibson should be available at a reasonable price.

I think all 3 of them are in the same category of a solid second centre back partner to a quality number 1 mate

Also can't discount the style of play, Gibson has been playing in a team which is parking the bus week in week out, Keane is playing in a team which for the majority of the season has been sitting deep and countering, Maguire has been playing for a Hull that plays relatively open footy.

All 3 could turn out well and all 3 have not proven themselves fully yet. They're kind of at the level Jagielka and Lescott where when we got them (maybe a bit more proven tbf)

Regarding journeymen, none of us want those types, and Koeman doesn't either. Good.

We do have an issue with numbers though, heading into Europe, which Koeman is more keenly aware of.

As things stand though, and waiting to learn whether Lukaku/Barkley stay, I doubt if we make say 6-8 signings they'll all be of the same transfer fee and "quality" - we are not going to spend £30m+ each on six players.

In that scenario I would expect a couple "big" signings by our standards and after than you are into the territory of signing for lesser fees / prospects. I do agree though that it is of no value at all padding out the squad with players into their late 20's / early 30s with no realistic prospect of playing more than a handful of games and unlikely to contribute much of note anyway.

We really have to get maximum bang for our buck in the summer so its imperative we look to Europe and abroad for at least some of the signings, particularly those at the more modest end of the fee scale, to stretch the budget. Most clubs have to compromise somewhere along the line, so the mix of signings achieved over the summer will be particularly interesting for us this time around.

I assume Walsh will be influential in targeting younger players and those from abroad who could be considered reasonably close to the first team within a year or two, or ready now. Developing younger players and selling them on for significant profit will be a key component in our plans I feel.

Great points but I don't believe that Maguire is a player to take us into the top 6, none of the clubs above are interested and watching him play you can see why he is a reincarnate of Billy Wright, but with a slightly bigger belly. Its a big no from me on Maguire

So you'd take 3 unproven footballers, who are technically still young and would stifle the progress of our own youth system??

Boss

If I'm not wrong;
17 year old Cholobah was Feeney's centre back partner for England and is now in the u19s (7caps) same as Davies...who wouldn't want him lol

Baker is on loan at Vitesse, scored 1 every 4 games and from the (very little) ive seen looks good also 7goals in 13 games from midfield for England u21s...was very highly rated by mourinho.

Abraham...of course i'd want him.

I'd hope we look to approach Chelsea for them even if we keep Lukaku...also Solanke is out of contract too.

Exactly how does signing really top prospects stifle our own youth players? If that's the case then 1st team signings and any walsh buys for the u23s do the same.

If we were somehow able to obtain 3 or 4 (or even 1 or 2) top English prospects who are the best in their age group we should do so

How would they concede less? Their squad is threadbare, they didn't have a proper manager until January, sold their best players...

You could point more fingers at Gibson and Boro for being more likely to go down than Hull and Maguire.

As for Keane...You can't underestimate how well he and Ben Mee are as a partnership.

would go all out for VVD & Keane, should get one of them be amazing if we get both... think VVD will go to Chelsea or city though, and keane will go back to united if they want him being a fan ( do they need him though ) would anyone take smalling if keane did go united? he was class a season or two back when he was fit for the season

We have enough prospects need players ready to challenge for the first team
