Ross Barkley

A Sun spokesperson said: “Columnists are supposed to have strong opinions that provoke debate among the readers. However, their views do not necessarily reflect those of the newspaper.”

The only debate is "who is so crass to allow this kind of article to be published?"

It's grossly insulting towards Ross Barkley (in every way possible without justification of any sort) and the other references to the people of Liverpool are no better.

Without any doubt the article was a calculated and racist attack on Ross Barkley by a lowlife journalist trying to keep his persona in the spotlight. Given the timing of this gross act I am highly surprised that any normal person could believe that McKenzie a) didn't realise what he'd said would cause a commotion, b) hadn't known Ross Barkley's lineage and c) hadn't intended it exactly as it's been perceived. The man is an obnoxious, thick-skinned cad who thinks he's untouchable because of his position.
Joe Anderson has called him out and so should Barkley's legal representative....pond life like this need to be challenged and castigated. If he were to be leathered by an angry mob and beaten to a pulp I can't say there'd be too many people around who would offer any sympathy.
Time for Everton to respond with a strongly worded demand for a public apology followed by a banning from anything Everton-related.

Mackenzie is a racist, not even a debate. Whether he meant to imply racism in that story only he knows, but people assuming that a blatant racist did, is hardly a surprise. You reap what you sow. I hope this finally sees the end of the hideous scrote.

His fellow journalists openly call him racist, his columns regularly imply racism & we've got people giving him the benefit of the doubt.

If it looks like a duck...

Yep, and unfortunately reaching out to its core readership. Glad the police are now investigating, it's very clear what was being put across, nefarious rag.

Are the Sun owned by same corporation as TalkSPORT?

Interesting that seems to be our main comms channel recently.

Maybe that explains the lack of banning ?

Question for you mate: if you weren't an Evertonian and knew nothing of Barkley would you immediately think "mixed race".

Along with most other people I doubt it.

Soft arse McKenzie has walked onto a punch with this without realising it.
That's not the point though Dave. It's irrelevant what McKenzie knows of Barkley's family, he has caused offence by the publication of that article. That's how it works in law; if I make a sectarian comment in work then it doesn't matter if I knew the religion of the offended or not.

I know you aren't defending McKenzie but plenty will using your same logic. You may well be right that he knows nothing of Ross but this shouldn't be a refuge to the man. Neanderthals will try though.

I like your posting Dave, a counterpoint to the unbounded enthusiasm of others like me. You are a bit off the mark with this topic though in my humble opinion mate.
