Andy Rankin, David Lawson, Dai Davies, Jim Arnold, George Wood...all GKs who filled in the gap between West and Southall.

We've had some shockers down the years. It probably deserves its own thread - they've been that outrageous.

And Seamus McDonagh.

Not to mention the unfortunate Drew Brand and his Nightmare On Elland Road :whip:

Some absolute wallopers have played in that goal for us.

It always seemed that Liverpool had all the decent GKs and we went to the bargain basement for ours...Southall and Martyn aside, we have been starved of decent keepers.

The thought of having to watch Dave Lawson in goal, always makes me want to cry, anyone who watched us through those years deserves a medal for, putting up with so much crack when the other lot were winning everything in sight! :(

...the goalie at the other end wasn't bad either. When you look at Rankin, he's not got the physicality of the modern day keeper but he was always a fine shot stopper. In a way, we were probably better off that he was involved in that famous penalty shoot out with Monchengladbach and I mean no disrespect to Gordon West when I say that.
A great back up keeper who sometimes kept Westy out his performances were that good a keeper in his own right!

Jim Macdoagh the smallest keeper you could wish to see - that Lawson top money for a below average keeper

..I was in upper Gwladys St that famous night against Monchengladbach. If I remember rightly Royle missed his. I'm not exactly sure of the sequence but I've always had a view that the first team to miss often wins. Rankin was brilliant in that shot out.
I was at a match at Tottenham that night and saw the penalties in a pub after the game.

I don't remember if it was live or highlights on the news, but anyway, I thought Andy dived early to save the
deciding pen. Wasn't complaining, mind.

What about Drew Brand?

Legend that fella.

Looked again and your right, not by much, but it did the trick. And as someone posted earlier he wasn't within a mile of any of the others.

...I can't imagine it was live on telly, Jeff. Funny enough, somebody else reckoned he moved early. For some reason I had it in my mind that he saved to his left but somebody earlier has posted a clip of the shoot out and it was a save to his right. To be fair it wasn't the best penalty.

I thought I also noticed their keeper doing a wobbly legged Grobelaar thing.
