I really hope he signs but just because he signs a new contract doesn't mean he will be staying next year.

What it means is that somebody has to meet the release clause, which is £80m apparently. So he can't agitate for a move until that figure is met. That makes me feel better about life.

And with all his lack of first touch, inconsistency and terrible hold-up play he is STILL top scorer in the league. GET SHUT LIDS!

I will not be fully convinced that he will be an Everton player for the 2017/18 season until he's on the pitch for us after deadline day.

In relation to other top players? Signing a bumper contract is no guarantee he will be with us much longer. As much as I would like him to be.

Unfortunately it seems he didn't actually say that and talk sport have just assumed that's the case.

The only quote is that "he will sign"

It contains a release clause which is set in stone, and means he can't try and force through a move until that clause is met. It is significant.

but there is two options, he signs a contract or he doesn't sign a contract... it looks like he is signing a contract what else can he do? get a tattoo of everton on his fod to show he wants to stay?

did his agent not say two months ago the contract was 99% done?

I would not listen to his agent for reliability, although i will hope this case he is.
