don't think any of us think we rule the roost but we all want whats best for EFC, we pay RK £3m a year to also want the best for us and that doesn't involve telling out star striker you will not fulfil your potential if you stay here...not matter how many other ppl outside the club are saying it
He's the diametric opposite of Martinez and the guff that got on everyones' tits: Dutch international superstar player that achieved pretty much everything in the game calls it as he sees it. Shock horror.
I think he's a realist. Take the Everton goggles off and Lukaku could certainly do better. Yes? Yeah, we want him here but tough titty in the game of today if we cannot help him achieve what he is capable of. Same as Stones, same as Rooney. Are we so shocked?
And he's calling out the current team as also-rans, in need of a rebuild and investment, which based on the gutless debacle we've just had the pleasure to witness at Chelsea is spot on (admittedly, his tactics and selection were too negative IMHO). He's upping the ante for January' and next Summer's investment. If he doesn't get the players he wants to achieve what he wants short term, he'll be off. And fair enough.
I say that as a passionate Everton fan that'll still be paying to watch the Blues and encouraging my kids to do the same, Lukaku or no Lukaku, Koeman or no Koeman.

I agree. Unless Koeman completely turns the season around I'm certain Rom is on his wag in the summer. He has to go if he hasnt committed to a new contract. And I wouldnt lay the full blame for that with Koeman.
But what I don't want to hear is our manager openly encouraging the player in this and also telling us fans that he should go with our blessing and be grateful that we had him for so long during his development. Thats effectively what written at the weekend. I'm hoping this second article is just a diffrrent slant on the same interview. Otherwise it means he's made two different statements along the same linesand indicates he learned nothing from the first.
This type of talk is probably acceptable behaviour at his previous clubs but not here. He's too bloody honest!!

He hasn't said Lukaku is leaving. He's said that if Rom fulfills his potential he'll be playing for the big clubs (as in Barca, Real etc)

No, he is getting paid that money to take us back to where we want to be and were before the last two seasons - a club challenging for the top 7.
That's in the short-term. Baby steps and all that.
Hopefully, by the end of season 2, we're looking at seriously competing for CL. And a trophy should always be on the cards.
But he hasn't dismissed any of that. He's simply said that in other cases of promising young players who are at Lukaku's level, they end up at the likes of Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern etc etc.

Is it meaningless though? The first job of a manager along with the board is to sell a dream and install pride and passion into the club. Tell players where we are heading we can fulfil their ambitions. (Even if it's BS)
How do potential sponsors take this? Our board turn up for negotiations saying we deserve big club money as we will be challenging the top four and trophies over the next year, they can turn around and say well you are struggling to keep hold of your best players and even the manager said there are bigger clubs out there. It doesn't look good.
So in my humble opinion even some truthful words can cause damage. It just reinforces why the sky generation were discussing how Southampton are a bigger club than Everton.
