It's funny you think give it a few hours and you'll feel better, but it just gets worse.
I'm trying to understand what was the motivation for making such comments:
Lukaku making demands through his agent that the club doesn't big him up enough, therefore the big clubs aren't showing interest? Obviously we would need something in return for this, so as part of the contract negotiations he will only sign if comments are made and a lower buy out clause inserted. Unlikely.
Other agents reporting back that we hold players back when bigger clubs come calling, so to attract those type players he is making it known that Everton isn't a final stop for the best ones? Possible but not really much to gain.
Downplay expectation levels and player sales? Probable but still better ways of saying it.
He's just got no delicate way of getting across his words and this is why he rubs people up the wrong way. Granted it can't be easy as English isn't his first language but he needs to get better and fast.
All he had to come out and say 'we as club need to make strides forward quickly or else our best players will look to join teams that are in the CL and are competing for trophies'. Simples.
But no, he had to make a direct comparison between us and Barca, well here is a news flash for you, Lukaku would struggle to make it on to the bench nevermind the team! He is our best striker but he isn't the finished article yet, he still misses far too many good scoring opportunities and he has had two bites at Chelsea and couldn't score, imagine the pressure if he went to a bigger club again.
Your job is to make Lukaku a better player while he is here so maybe we'll have some more points on the board and be closer to the club's he may be thinking of joining.
I'm sure Leicester won the league with Ranieri constantly yapping to all their players that this is just a stop gap. A team is greater than the sum of it's parts, if anyone thinks they're too good for Everton everyone knows what they can do, it rhymes with duck off.
