Ross Barkley

It's not so much what they're saying. Lot of truth in it actually and they're not really slating him as such. It's more the fact that they're highlighting an issue that we can do without. Leave the lad to get himself right in his own time I say.

Other young players have been through bad patches and nothing said. Dele Alli was awful in the euros and since for England, and is only just getting his form back for Spurs, but absolutely nothing is said about it. Whereas this is about the third big article that I'm aware of, on Ross in national TV & press in the last week or so. Even Koeman has lost his temper at press conferences because he's fed up answering question on him.

In fairness, most of the articles are quite supportive and you can almost see them willing him to get back on track; probably because they see him as the future saviour of the national team.

Agreed. Harry kane has been awful since and including the euros but for some reason is exempt from critisim whereas Ross just seems to draw it from all quarters.

He'll be back to his best soon I'm certain. Players always have runs of bad form, not that I think he has been particularly poor.

He is an outstanding player whom we should be grateful of having. We've got a diamond.

The thing is he has been poor. And poor for a long time. And it's us fans that need to wake up and realise this

Oh look at his stats in this half of a game and compared to others at this age etc yet Ross has been first choice in this team whether he has been good or bad for 3 years now. What sort of message does that give him? No matter how little he tracks back or gives the ball away or makes the wrong choice and goes for the selfish option he will play the following week? The fact he has no competition either, so we have to change tactics if we drop him. And God forbid anyone criticises him, just because he is one of ours.

Now I do think he is a talent and there is certainly a fantastic midfielder in there. But it hasn't been there for a while now and the longer he keeps stagnating the closer he becomes to being expendable from the club no matter how local he is.

I sold all this month's ago, the Newcastle game where when just kept going for goal and I said it then it was a liability. Against Bournemouth the amount of times he went for goal rather than look to set anyone up before losing it. Hell the moment he turned a defender and rather than put it to rom in the 6 yard box decided to turn the defender again just to shoot himself before losing it.

He doesn't work hard enough, he doesn't track back or follow team instructions and right now he is a massive liability. 12 months ago I'd have said he is vital to the team long term but we could, and should have a better player in his position

Only Ross can be the player he looked to becoming 4 years ago. That is the sad thing, and frustrating as well. He is talented, he has still got loads of potential and at his age he has many years to achieve that. I still think he has a great footballing brain when he plays naturally, it's when he thinks that he always chooses wrong. Hopefully koeman can have an effect on him this season and get the man coming through because right now he is still playing a boys game

Just to make a point on this.

The reason why Ross is homed in on is not special treatment but it's the fact that deep down he is thst good of a player. Or at least he has the talent and potential of anyone else world class and just hasn't proven it. The media actually want him to improve, the new age Gerrard so to speak, top player at his own club. It's the fact he is faltering still and it's down to himself that the media are picking up on.

Got shot down yesterday for suggesting this game could have suited Ross as he'd get more space and, the way they set up, there would be loads of opportunities for breakaways. Turns out there was but nobody with the composure or ability to take advantage.

I'd still probably have played 3 defensive midfielders but found slot for Ross in the front 3. Think he could have excelled

I'm not going to start complaining about Koemans team selections, because he seems to be doing a good job. IMO though, as we were playing so deep, the extra covering midfielder wasn't needed as there were enough bodies already behind the ball. That is where Ross could have been really good, space to run into (there was loads) and then feed Rom.

I'm really hoping this is just RK taking him out of the spotlight, to work on him in training to teach him how he wants him to play. If not, I'll be absolutely gutted to see him sign for someone else and they get the benefit of his talent.

We've needed a new number 10 for ages. Was a shocker of a transfer window given the supposed riches we have.

Ross hasn't done anything I didn't expect this season, bit bewildered by people expecting anything different from him.

I think a new number 10 signing in January - an experienced world class player- will allow Ross to become a bench player- with no shame- and then he will have the time to focus on developing his ability without all the pressure put on him now. As it is i would still play him ahead of Cleverly but not ahead of Del, Mirallis or Bolaise.

+1
Hasn't dawned on him that football is, above all else, a TEAM sport.

Unreal.

Anyone outside Everton looking in sees Lukaku and Barkley as our best two talents - head and shoulders above anyone in this squad.

A lad lauded by Xavi, the greatest midfielder of his generation, but dismissed by people on here, many of whom have probably never kicked a ball.
