Ross Barkley

This is precisely what Koeman wants, and it's no surprise that both Spurs and Liverpool (2nd and 3rd) play this way but have had 2 seasons to get it right.

This is where the enigma that is Barkley falls down in that it's an area where he's not proficient and may not be likely to get better either!

He may improve on this, but then needs Lukaku to do the same, which again isn't likely to happen anytime soon, and this then begs the question can Koeman play both?

It doesn't help when those around him like Cleverley stroll around leaving the old man that is Barry making him look pedestrian.

It's either all press or play a different way.
Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Koeman had managed to get Sissoko through the door.

I think Barkley would have found himself sitting on the bench sooner rather than later.

Lampard played 187 times for West Ham scoring 39 goals 4.79
Barkley has played 166 times for Everton scoring 27 goals 6.14

Lampard played in Midfield, Barkley plays as a striker, stop comparing them or at least stop talking utter bubbles.
Scored nine pens for West Ham in that period...which just about evens things out.

Next.

Quite possibly, nothing wrong with competition in all areas, which everyone can see is what we lack currently

I don't think the way Koeman sets up our attack suits him. Theres not much movement ahead of him now when he receives the ball and the numbers we commit to attack reduces how effective he can be carrying it. His game then becomes more ponderous and less dynamic.
This is true to be fair davek.

Maybe we will sync a bit more as the fitness keeps going up.

IIRC Lampard's stats when he was Barkley's age weren't as good. You're comparing Lampard the finished article with Barkley the work in progress. You'll no doubt say "but we've been saying that for ages and he hasn't progressed". Well he's that bad he has 22 caps for his country with many more to come, and everyone has different development rates.

The reason this is a heated topic and generates interest is precisely because we've all seen what this lad can do when he's in form. He's unplayable on his day. He now has to make those days more frequent than they have been...or find a club where he'll be catered to and scoop up a bundle of cups.
Don't get me wrong I like Barkley, but I just don't agree with the comparison with Lampard. I think he's more like Gerrard, instinctive and difficult to predict, and undisciplined

Unfortunately he doesn't have the work rate or snide of Gerrard.

The closest player he is like would be Toure.
