Ross Barkley

To be fair from my stream the away end looked to have emptied by the final whistle

Gah, fallen for yet another Social Media lie.

There were two absolute weapons giving it the Vs at the players but it started before Ross approached and he turned to us with a clap and then walked off the opposite way.

He probably saw it but to say he was going to come over but didn't because people were having a do at him just isn't true.

Only player to put a tackle in for us (besic) when things were going wrong. Some of our best results were when he played sporadically tbh. Looked far better defensively because of him.imo.

Ross needs to step up. The fan base is split between those who are too soft and those who are too hard on him imo. But that doesn't matter, it's been ages since a whole performance from him has been ace. Nea.

Thats just wrong, Besic offered very little and people are sold on the fake fist waving and stupid dive in tackles, he was terrible positionaly and his passing at tomes was a joke and he lost the ball more tham Ross....yet nobody picked him up on it.

Aye and they were boss.

Just pointing it out.

I know mate....it's infuriating though innit, cos the kid's uber talented....but thing is, he's NOT a kid any more so as phrase that's kinda null...he's a young, pro footballer and he needs to find his balance...when he was brought off the other week for, frankly, distributing like a 12yo at the arse end of a SUN league it was deserved - as was the rip that went with it because there's no excuse, you can't MANAGE that, it just an awful game...

And he has too many of them.

That said, I like him but I've found meself asking the following....have I ever seen him have a decent, say, three games on the bounce?

And I don't think I have, sadly...

He's not exempt from being criticised because he's 'one of us' an' all that jazz. I'm also starting to think that the weight of expectation on him playing for his OWN club may be too much...he'd prob be boss elsewhere. Will he be so here?

I'm starting to doubt it. Hope so like...

There's a load of them need to sit down and have a big think after today so he's not on his own.

;)

So ,in a nutshell ,your position is that because Besic is poor ergo Ross is good? Hmmm, might need some work to be truly convincing.

Besic was the reason we had tackles and blocks vs say man city off the top of my head (and the rest). The guy works for us. Doesn't half ass his shift. Pretty sure we conceded less shots on target those games he played by a considerable amount than without.

Besic gave the most gutless, pathetic, un-arsed 45 minutes i've seen from an everton player in my lifetime last season home to Arsenal.

To get the record straight btw, love Ross and want him to succeed. I'm just not blinded by the blue tinted specs.

He got fat under martinez and looks fitter this year but still ain't performing as I'd hope. Still longing for the barkley vs Newcastle all that time ago....

One game, and it's out of character for him but fully agree it was awful.

Ross been doing gutless displays for days of game time though?

He needs to sort out in his head where he needs to be at any given time, and that should come from the Manager and coaching staff.

When we are on the ball we need him central in the final third of the pitch behind the main striker. That is his best and most dangerous attacking position.

When we are not in possession, he needs to be on the halfway line, central, to shore up a midfield that needs to take staion and set up in such a way that the opposition do not progress directly through the centre of the pitch. When possession is re-gained, from that central position, he should be motoring forward to support the impending attack.

The lad is young enough to do the above, and have the brains to do so. Today, in the first half, I saw an opponent about 3-4 yards away from him, and he made no effort to bust a gut to get a tackle in, or get goal-side to make that opponent's advancement more difficult. Not working for the good of the team is unforgiveable.
100% agree mate. For me needs to be dropped now, I don't care if he's our diamond or not, its not the misplaced passes that's the issue its his work rate and hunger for the team that's all wrong.
I think its time to give young Tom Davies a run in the team or Kieran Dowell they will be fearless and hungry for it, basically everything Barkley is not at the minute.....

Cant imagine that he will ever play in that position. Only maybe when we're behind like today for the last 20min but not at the start.
He's started in that position before. The game against QPR a couple of seasons back when he ran the show and scored. He was also pushed back in the 3-3 derby draw against Liverpool second half and dominated the flow of the game.

Look how far we are going back to see a good display though... He's got everything needed for an AM and canny do et
