I remember thinking when West Ham bought him after the World Cup, that we should have gone in for him, he impressed me, but now we need players to push us foward and I don't think that's him anymore!

Neither for me. But Valencia is terrible, can't score goals and is incapable of playing the lone striker role so is pretty useless as a back up option to Lukaku. The same can't be said of Anichebe, so I'd go with him.

16 in 30 for Ecuador says otherwise.

He is not remotely terrible.

And you cant say that Anichebe cant score goals?

Really?

The best memory of Victor was seeing him running himself into the GP ground harassing the Man City defenders when we were down to ten men a few years back. That performance alone gave a glimpse of what could have been and I was grateful that day.
Now for an admission, I can't recall Valencia at all so I can only go what others are saying.
He had something no doubt if that

But he just never worked to improve himself..

Whats the standard of opposition for Ecaudor though mate?

Anichebe is not a goalscorer either but can play a loan striker role in the premiership. Not only is Valencia not good enough but he can't play the role that is required of him.

Mostly respectable opposition to be fair. Team that we'd no doubt struggle against..well some of them.

I have a lot of respect for your opinion & really enjoy your posts However I think your being a bit harsh on him.

Whilst I agree he isn't the Most adept at playing the lone striker role I think he is an option which currently we don't have for a second striker alongside lukaku.

In his first season at West Ham he managed to do something that very few strikers manage in the premiership & against Manchester city he recovered possession more times than he lost it also completely destroyed zabeleta.

I think Koeman will use him at times to play with lukaku & ask him to work &'work giving defenders no peace similar to Shane long.

Appreciate since that first season he hasn't looked motivated or fit but this is where Koeman needs to earn his money as unfortunately he has clearly been let down with the recruitment.

We'll see mate, I think international football is different. South American opposition varies vastly from PL. His record in England over the last 2 seasons of 4 goals a season is worrying.

Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile etc usually...

Anichebe cant really play any role at this point! There is a reason why he was a free agent this late into the season.

How do you know what role is required of him?

Can we not actually wait for players to play for us before judging them?

Know who else was not good enough for us? Idrissa Gueye. How about Kevin Kilbane? Lee Carsley? Kevin Campbell? Don Hutchison?

Until a player has played for us it's all total guesswork. Valencia does have his attributes and I am not remotely bothered what he did or didnt do for West Ham as history has proved time and time again that a players history at a form club means absolutely nothing as there are far too many variables to base a proper opinion off.

Thanks buddy and I appreciate your feedback, football is all about opinions and I know I'm being very harsh on him. I think it's partly down to my own anger at deadline day being put onto him.

I'll give home a chance when he's here as objectively as possible. What I can say for him is he could fit the profile of the Vardy/Perez striker as a runner as a number 9. We'll see. I think it's a panic buy though and he will struggle. As always with football though, the evidence will be on the pitch.
