Oh man without a doubt we probably could have matched it or bettered. But let's say he's gone from 120k a week down to even 80-90k, no way would we break our own wage structure for him

I think I like it most when people fume about Everton having missed out on [insert player name], like we've managed to cock up negotiations or dragged our feet, when there is no hint at all that we were ever interested in that player.

You've built it up so much in your head that [insert player name] is such a superstar that there's no way we can't have had discussions with them, living in an alternative reality fuelled by the blag ITK's for the whole transfer window and when the actual reality hits home on the final day you explode in a fit of rage.

It's quite beautiful really, if not a little frightening.
